From @SPGlobalRatings: The global macro tug of war continues. Economies around the world continue to respond to large, opposing shocks. We mainly see negative shocks to the supply side and positive ones for demand. At a conceptual level, the net effect of these shocks on prices is unambiguous: prices will rise. For output, the net effect is more ambiguous and will depend on the relative magnitudes of the opposing shocks. If the positive effects outweigh the negative ones, then output will rise. From @SPGlobalRatings: North American credit conditions face a more challenging risk backdrop, with a wider Middle East war, uncertainty around the returns on AI investment, and rising financing costs likely to weigh on borrowers' confidence and spending. U.S. policy direction could become more executive-action-driven after the midterms, making trade and foreign policy key areas to watch for potential economic, market, and geopolitical ramifications. Ratings pressure remains contained but uneven. Dive into the full report for a deeper look at North America's credit conditions and outlook. okt.to/f0h8Zq

Asian countries are monitoring the possibility of US diesel export restrictions, a move that could reshape global refined product flows despite the region's limited reliance on US middle distillate supplies. While a US ban would intensify competition for Asian and Middle Eastern barrels among European and Latin American buyers, driving up prices, the impact across Asia could be uneven. Import-dependent economies would face higher costs for replacement cargoes rather than outright shortages because of their reliance on regional suppliers such as South Korea, Singapore and China. From @SPGMarketIntel: The S&P 500 continued its march to fresh all-time highs through Q2 2026, extending a rally that has defined much of the year, before a bout of late-summer volatility took hold as renewed US-Iran hostilities reignited the energy-price and inflation concerns that first surfaced back in February. The index has pulled back modestly from its highs heading into September, with oil prices and Treasury yields climbing on the fresh round of strikes in the Persian Gulf, and rate-hike speculation creeping back into the conversation as inflation data runs hotter. Against that backdrop, Q2 earnings delivered another standout quarter, with 78% of companies beating EPS estimates and a year-over -year increase in earnings of a whopping 53%. The ongoing El Niño is reshaping global seafood markets by warming Pacific waters and disrupting rainfall, currents and nutrient flows. Shrimp producers face disease risks, salinity fluctuations, flooding, drought and elevated feed costs, which pressure output and margins. In Peru, warmer seas can push anchovy stocks deeper or farther offshore, curbing catches and fishmeal production. Reduced fishmeal availability raises feed prices, affecting shrimp supply, trade flows and profitability worldwide. In the second episode of a four-part podcast series on El Niño and its impact on key agricultural commodities, host Asim Anand is joined by Platts price reporters Elvis John and Mariana Farhat, along with news editor Sayona Anna John. Together, they discuss how El Niño is affecting shrimp trade and pricing, and how markets are adjusting to the weather disruptions.
