We were proud to join @LUCHA_AZ, @opinorg, @OVOV_AZ, @CommonCause & partners this morning to remind the Maricopa Board of Supervisors & Recorder Justin Heap that they must protect every voter, count every vote, and certify the results regardless of who wins.
If you're an AZ voter, your voice will be heard and your vote will be counted. Check your voter registration before Oct 5 at My.Arizona.Vote, then return your mail ballot as soon as you can, or vote early in person starting Oct 7.
At a press conference this morning, ACLU-AZ Executive Director Victoria Lopez reminded the Maricopa Board of Supervisors and the @RecordersOffice that counties have an obligation to ensure that voters can participate without interference, intimidation, or threats.
We recently sent a letter to every county election official in AZ to remind them that it is illegal for ICE agents, federal troops, or armed federal law enforcement to be deployed to any polling place.

If you encounter any problems or issues while voting, call the Election Protection Hotline, which is staffed by nonpartisan volunteer attorneys: 866-OUR-VOTE
The results of this investigation should come as no surprise -- Arizona has some of the strictest laws in the nation when it comes to ensuring that only eligible voters can vote. Those suggesting otherwise are trying to undermine trust & spread confusion.

Don't wait until the last second! Register or check your voter registration to make sure everything is up-to-date by visiting my.arizona.vote before October 5th.
The letters were sent because of a newly effective state law that requires elections officials to compare voter registration data with the driver license database. In this round, even minor discrepancies in addresses were flagged (eg,"Street" vs. "St." or "Unit 1" vs. "#1").
There are steps you can take now to protect your right to vote:
1️⃣Update or confirm your voter registration by 10/5
2️⃣Call the Election Protection hotline if you have concerns or problems while voting: 866-687-8683
3️⃣Share accurate voting info with your friends & family

150,000 Maricopa County voters recently received letters from the county asking if they'd moved — even though many had been at the same address for years.

If you received a letter like this and you haven’t moved, don’t panic! You should still be registered, but you should confirm by going to my.arizona.vote
BREAKING: Glendale will no longer criminalize panhandling — a win for free speech and the rights of people experiencing poverty. But the reversal only came after we sued the city and forced the issue. It should never be a crime to ask for help.

Everyone, including elected officials like @SenAnaliseOrtiz, has the First Amendment right to report on public law enforcement activities and inform their communities of potential harms. azcentral.com/story/opinion/…
An empty Pima County prison is being eyed as a possible ICE detention center. Given ICE’s troubling track record of human rights abuses in detention, we’re calling for transparency, oversight and a halt to expanding a harmful system.

Alfredo Gutierrez, who played a critical role in the immigrants' rights movement in Arizona and was a powerful advocate on behalf of so many, passed away yesterday at 79. He leaves a long and fierce legacy for all of us to carry on.
BREAKING: We've sued to end enforcement of Glendale's panhandling bans, alleging that the ordinances violate the First Amendment.
Criminalizing a person asking for help isn’t only unconstitutional, it’s wrong.
