Here is my extremely spoiler-heavy review for Digger (link below). The long and the short of it is that it is a masterpiece, albeit one which is open to many possible critiques and misinterpretations.
Review coming later, but preliminary thoughts on DIGGER: While there are some critiques I understand, appreciate, and take seriously, I think a lot of critics (especially American ones) are coming away feeling attacked. The claims of didacticism are extremely overblown.

Oh gosh, I wish I didn't remember this.
I was giggling all through the speech in Digger bc I’m chronically online & I remember years ago someone on here said that socialism and anti-imperialism succeeding would mean some of you in the global north would not get to eat bananas year round and it caused so many meltdowns

I also loved how you couldn’t tell if they were making fun of Trump or Biden. As if the problem goes beyond party politics- oh wait……. It does!

Rare rare rare rare instance where a cover like this can match and perhaps even exceed the original. It loses a little in terms of lo-fi crunchiness but replaces it with a ravening rancour that lights a fire inside of me. If you know what I mean. piped.video/watch?v=Tf521lBq…

It's amusing that I have seen so many incisive takes on the film on Twitter and yet so many of the reviews from critics I have read have felt nearly in bad faith in their readings.
With over 250 ratings, Tom Cruise's #Digger has debuted a surprising 72% audience score on #RottenTomatoes, showcasing a clear split with critics, as the critics' score currently sits at 51%. 🍅 Read More: bit.ly/4dizEoz

This isn't to say that every negative take has felt bad faith to me (I was on the phone with a fellow critic who is publishing his review Monday who I think understands the film quite well, even if we have opposite views on it).

No wonder every MCU film is unwatchable garbage.
Tom Holland reveals that Marvel directors tried to cut his Spider-Man debut down to almost nothing until Robert Downey Jr. forced them to shoot it "My scene had been cut down significantly from what I'd done in the audition to now a page and a half or maybe even two pages" "And we start shooting the scene, and Downey piped up and was like, 'Where's all the kid's lines gone?'" "And the Russos sort of said... 'This is already a 140-page script, like we can't spend too much time on this'" "And Downey was the one that was like, 'No, no, no... Let's shoot the whole thing from the audition. You can always cut it, but you'd want to have it.' And they used all of it" "So I owe that to him. I'd love to one day do that... if I'd be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe" "I'd love to do for a young kid what Downey did for me"

My theory is actually that they just shot this stuff specifically for trailers and teasers because this is like. One of the least trailer-friendly films I have ever seen in my entire life.
All the shots from the trailer of DIGGER that didn’t make it into the final cut. 🪏

I really wasn't sure how I would take to the film, given my relative lack of exposure to Iñárritu and my general lack of interest in his filmography writ large. That said, I loved it. DIGGER is an astounding film and I cannot believe it was made. Masterful; hilarious. More soon.

Griffith really is the most fragile manchild of American cinema. The master race, always in tears!
i'll give Iñárritu this: he never made a film as evil as Birth of a Nation, nor did he follow it up with a movie halfway designed as a fuck you to the NAACP for calling him a racist
