I mean I would kinda diverge on this:
- Could they have communicated better in Web3? Yes
- Could they have focused more on Web3? Yes
The
@Azuki team did mint
1. Azuki OG NFTs: 1 ETH --> $4,000 --> 2022
2. Beanz --> Free Airdrop
3. Elementals --> Free Airdrop to holders + 2 ETH for an extra elemental --> $5,000 at the time in 2024.
Total raised per holder if holders did not buy an extra elemental
$4,000
Total raised per holder if they did buy an extra elemental
$9,000
-----------
What did holders receive
1. Free Beanz worth 5 ETH [$15,000] in the first LA Garden event which was also Free to holders.
2. Free access to the Alley event in NFT NYC
3. Free airdrop of the Twin Tiger Jacket
4. Free access to the Las Vegas event
5. Free airdrop of elemental worth $5,000
6. Free airdrop of Anime coin allocation, approximately $10,000 for each OG Holder had they sold at launch of ethereum:0x4dc26fc5854e7648a064a4abd590bbe71724c277
Total holders received in the past 4 years considering they minted the Azuki OG NFT
Cost: $4,000
Return: $33,000 in 4 years:
* $15,000 + $1,000 + $500 + $5,000 + $10,000 + $1,500
* Ticket price for all events $1,000
* Twin tiger jacket $500
* Elemental price on launch $5,000 for floor
* Anime coin drop if sold at launch for Azuki OG $10k.
* Current floor for Azuki OG $1,500
Over 4 years, growing from $4,000 to $33,000:
▫️CAGR: 69.5% per year
▫️Total return: 725%
▫️Average profit: $7,250 per year
▫️Final multiple: 8.25×
Now of course, that's without having minted 2 Azuki OG NFTs, and sold one at higher prices, or traded Beanz, or traded Elementals, or Twin Tiger Jackets.
Expectation is for secondary to profit, but from an extraction perspective, I do not believe it is fair to say they extracted while NFTs are still sitting at $2,000 - 50% down from mint with all the value creation mentioned above.
Web3 should have been further of a priority of course, I would ache to see that as a holder and collector.
I do not have the answer on whether it is good or bad, right or wrong move, time will tell.
But when it comes to extraction, the project did deliver on some of the items and pivoted in an attempt to get to Product market Fit
The problem is they extracted from web3 to fund web2 and never put enough back into web3 when they saw some success. Their NFT holders funded everything they’ve done and have only seen losses for it. Disclaimer: I sold all mine.
