🚨Breaking. There's been a pneumonic plague outbreak at a BSL-3 lab in Siberia, Russia.🚨 "Nearly 200 People Under Observation After Irkutsk Lab Worker Dies From Plague" - Moscow Times This is fact, and also the inciting incident in my book BIOLOGICAL WAR: A SCENARIO, which is unnerving. Will post more as I learn more, including from Russian speaking sources🧵 shorturl.at/De4kW

🚨☣️More details on the Oct 1st pneumonic plague outbreak in Siberia, after a lab accident at a BSL-3 lab. "FSB units began accompanying ambulances transporting people who had been in contact with [lab tech] Shipilova for medical examination," as per local news. This is significant. FSB is Russia's domestic security and counterintelligence service, tasked w/implementing the national security of Russia." (Its predecessor was the KGB). This suggests quarantine was not voluntary. It also means Russian authorities are treating the lab accident and plague outbreak as a national security issue, involving a lot more than routine public health.

Why are countries with a known track record of corruption and poor safety protocols, such as russia and china messing around with deadly pathogens?

I loved your book. I stopped reading 3-4 other books I picked up after but they all felt so mundane and empty, I just couldn’t get into them. Was elated to learn about Nuclear War you also wrote and can’t put that one down. Many thanks and congratulations.

russia cant keep a lid on a plague lab but sure, trust them with nukes. every disaster there reads like a rejected tom clancy plot, except nobody edits for realism.

i have learnt to take with a pinch of salt any doomsday pronunciations about russia getting disseminated by americans. you can never tell if it is genuine or they're manufacturing consent for some disingenuous motives.

Plague is curable with antibiotics

Again this is nonsense. Pneumonic plague droplets are huge. They barely travel and even a basic cloth math protects. Plus don’t stand right next to Typhoid Mary. If this “spreads” it’s just Russian misinformation or Russian medical system being just beyond stupid. So don’t worry

Hey Annie. Love your books. I reread the nuclear war scenario 3x. Just finished this one. Horrifying all the more so because of who real the danger is.

Maybe we should stop with the 'lets develop deadly diseases' thing.

Its not an outbreak. There's one person infected bc of a broken test tube & 200 being observed. Omg

Remember how russian shills were screaming about biolabs in Ukraine? It's standard russian tactic: accuse your enemies of the things you are already doing

Isn't it funny how this always happens? You'd think that these test tubes would be unbreakable, but it seems they make them as fragile as regular glass.

Notice that the outbreak is pretty easy to attribute to a lab accident, because lab workers are the first cases. This contrasts with the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, which started in a wet market, and with cases clustered around it, not around the lab some tried to blame.

To be fair only one person was infected and all of her contacts tested negative with no symptoms. This isn’t an outbreak.

I’ve not read this book yet but after a few of your others, and mainly Nuclear War which I think the new one follows the style of, I’m going to assume this isn’t amazing news? I was just thinking the other day how normal and uneventful the world has seemed in recent years, nothing like the plague to shake the status quo.
