This tweet struck a chord with me, and while I don't often get personal on the Tweeters, given the point made here, I feel it's important. So here we go. Happy #pridemonth. x.lingyaoai.com/jpbrammer/status/87146… Confession: When I was younger, I never really bought into the idea of "pride."

It's actually very pathetic and not funny at all that @timburchett doesn't see the irony of trying to block Chevalier from being seated because she said she used the flag as a napkin. If disavowing the Constitution is disqualifying, he should be expelled from the House.

There is no universe in which one can simultaneously respect the First Amendment and say that a duly-elected candidate should not be seated because they expressed a lawful idea they disagree with. Zero. Mutually exclusive things.

It's unfortunate that he has so little respect for what the flag that hung on those caskets stood for. They died for absolutely nothing it Burchett gets his way. That's the real slap in the face to their sacrifice.

Imagine humiliating yourself like this for the guy you are divorcing on biblical grounds for his serial adultery. Just wild.

Ari Cohn retweeted
Here’s a question I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to get the pro-Flock crowd to answer for weeks now: Is the reason we needn’t be concerned about ALPRs because there aren’t (and never will be) enough of them out there to fully track/reconstruct our movements, OR is it because we have no legitimate privacy interest in those movements when they occur in public? They REALLY don’t want to answer that simple question. And it’s easy to see why.

There are non-bloodthirsty arguments for the death penalty. But if you're truly advancing them rather than bloodlust/vengeance, every execution is reluctant and regretful; a last resort nobody should want. Actively desiring the execution of a person betrays a different motive.

Unfortunate number of people out there with the inability to differentiate "reticence about the exercise of the violent authority of the state" from "sympathy for a murderer," but I suppose that's a big reason why we are where we are.

Here's a truth that many will find uncomfortable: Colleen Slemmer's wishes are irrelevant and should have precisely zero impact on government decisions or actions.

It's not ghoulish at all she is owed an apology because the state failed to carry our her wishes and the wishes of the jury of her peers

I'm sorry but no. I understand that she has been through a lot but "I am owed an apology because the state failed to end a human life to my satisfaction" is a ghoulsih thing to say in pretty much any circumstance.
The mother of the teenager murdered by Christa Pike said she believes she is owed an apology following this week's botched execution in Tennessee. abcnews.com/US/mother-christ…

Someone will have to explain to me how dropping out of the race immediately upon being threatened with a primary *isn't* cowardly. Never understood the bizarro definition of "courage" or "standing up to Trump" that includes getting out of his way as soon as he threatens you.
POLITICO — Sen. Thom Tillis lashed out in private texts to Donald Trump earlier this year — saying he refused to take the president’s “bullshit” — and that, had Trump directly threatened him with a primary challenge — he would’ve “immediately told you to fuck yourself.” politico.com/playbook

Like...wouldn't trying to prove the threat ineffectual by voting your conscience and defeating the challenge anyway be the actual courageous route?

So Tennessee runs to the Supreme Court to overturn a temporary stay so they can execute her ASAP, and then cannot even manage to successfully carry out the execution. What the hell are we even doing here. This is just sick.

If the state is going to wield its power to end a life, it should look for any possible reason, no matter how small, that it should not do so. The combination of bloodlust, incompetence, and inhumanity here is too much to bear.

Today Senator Blackburn is expected to try ramming KOSA--the Kids Online Safety Act--through the Senate via unanimous consent. KOSA was an Internet censorship bill in its inception, and in 4 years the only thing its authors have done is try to disguise KOSA's nature, not fix it.
