In 1663, Dutch painter Helena Roouers captured these tulips in a rummer — a characteristic 17th-century wine glass.
By then, the famous Tulip Mania of the 1630s was already history. But the fascination with tulips certainly wasn’t. They remained symbols of beauty, rarity and status, appearing again and again in Dutch flower painting.
