Today we announced the first fully autonomous excavators working on their own on commercial sites. With @Sundt, @ChampSitePrep and Zachry, Bedrock machines are moving earth on three projects in TX and NV. We started with excavators. The mission goes far beyond one machine.

We're coming to @ieeeiros in Pittsburgh, and we have some exciting things going on! On Sunday, September 27, we have three talks at three different robotics workshops led by our engineers Joshua Manela, Rushil Goradia and Georges Goetz. We're also hosting a happy hour on Tuesday, September 29, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, RSVP at the link in the thread. If you're in Pittsburgh and want to talk autonomy, heavy equipment, or the messy parts of working in the field, come find us!

We're hiring senior and staff embedded engineers onto our Onboard Infrastructure team, the group that builds the software foundation our autonomous machines run on. The job is building our safety controller, the mixed-criticality software between the autonomy system and the heavy machinery it controls. You'd work across the full embedded stack, from drivers and RTOS through communication, middleware, and applications. The controller commands the base machine and monitors the health of the wider system, all in deterministic real time. And it has to do that in heat and dust, hours from the nearest engineer, on connectivity that drops, doing real work on billion-dollar projects. If writing safety-critical code that moves real earth sounds like something you'd like to do, we'd love to hear from you. jobs.ashbyhq.com/bedrock-rob…

Becoming an expert excavator operator takes years, and the expertise lives in judgment built on the job. Mastering a machine comes from a personal journey of creativity and experimentation, with very few learnings ever written down.

@the_DruryO from @bricksbytespod came to our Texas test site in July and spent the day with us. He talked to @bsofman and @kevinmpeterson1 about what we're building, to an operator with 30 years in the cab about what changes for him, and to Trey Taparauskus from @ChampSitePrep about what it feels like to get in early on bringing fully autonomous equipment to his job sites. They came with the question: is this real work, or is it just a good demo? Find out in the link below.

In his recent talk at @anyscalecompute's Ray Summit, Bedrock’s Vincent Gonguet covered how the company was able to get to commercial deployments of fully autonomous excavators in only two years, and ways they use Ray to power the stack: heterogeneous CPU and GPU pipelines, mining ambiguous multimodal field data, and a closed-loop simulator that models everything down to the dirt.

After @bsofman's talk at @CarnegieMellon Spark and the career fair, we're hosting a happy hour so we can meet all of you. Some of our engineers came out of CMU and are glad to be back in Pittsburgh for drinks and good conversations. If robotics in construction is something that interests you, RSVP at the link in the thread. Don't miss it!

Don't miss our Co-Founder and CTO @kevinmpeterson1 on stage today at AI Infra Summit in Santa Clara. Industries facing the toughest constraints — labor shortages, jobsite safety — are sitting on the data that trains the models to solve them. Kevin joins Satyandra K. Gupta (@GrayMatterRobot) and David Gal (@Samsara), moderated by @muneyb (@Ambarella_Inc), to talk about the infrastructure behind physical AI — the hardware, connectivity, and sensory systems it takes to bring AI to the factory floor, the jobsite, and the highway.

Our Co-Founder and CTO @kevinmpeterson1 is joining @therobotreport's webinar "Field Robotics in Agriculture, Energy, and Construction" this Wednesday, September 16 at 12pm ET. The session will explore what changes when robots leave controlled environments and go to work outdoors. Kevin will talk through the excavation side of that problem and what we're learning from fully autonomous deployments on our partners' active job sites.

CMU Spark is @CarnegieMellon's largest startup job fair, and this year our Co-Founder and CEO @bsofman is delivering the keynote. Boris will talk about why construction is one of the hardest and most consequential places to put physical AI to work, and what we are building toward with our development partners on active job sites. More of our team will be there, so if you are thinking about where robotics and AI meet the physical economy, come find us!

Operators spend years learning one of the hardest jobs there is. They can feel when the ground is harder expected, and they ease off before anything on the machine tells them something is wrong. Most of that knowledge was never written down. It lives with the people who have spent their careers in the cab, and their experience guides our autonomy team every day. Equipment operators like Jared are an essential part of our team, in the field with our engineers, shaping how the system works and passing down knowledge that might otherwise get lost.
