Not only is it impossible to determine intent, which is irrelevant, it is also dangerous to declare another’s intent based on your own idea about an individual or his actions. The same goes for labeling someone a thug, whatever that means to you.
Again, my contention is with the way these types of plays are officiated and the ejections associated with targeting personal fouls. USC’s decision to suspend for Stephens for his conduct after the play is not what I am analyzing.
I believe his behavior Ben AFTER the play proves his malicious intent of the hit. He knew Dante was sliding and accelerated and lower himself to impact the head. He could have gone over him and avoided contact and he did not. He behavior AFTER the hit...for 10 minutes AFTER the hit proves he is a thug.
