I for one have never wanted Reagan conservatives to flee. All I wanted, and I think most people wanted, was for them to accept that after, well, 50 or so years, in 2016 they were bumped from the driver's seat to the passenger's seat. The Buchanan right sat in the passenger seat for decades. We did not run to the left, crying about our disenfranchisement. We pointed out the ongoing failures of the neocons, made our case diligently and repeatedly, and slowly won hearts and minds. Critical mass was reached and we won the White House. We took over the driver's seat and the Reaganites got bumped. They didn't get expelled; National Review still has readers, Mark Levin has listeners. But a certain subset of the Reaganites saw thier world collapsing in the transition from driver to passenger, and defected to the left. This has been viewed rightly as betrayal, and a sort of childish tantrum unworthy of respect.
