'All sides are hedging against diplomacy while preparing for renewed conflict. The war left the central dispute unresolved showing that Washington could impose severe costs without compelling Iran to concede, while Iran’s leadership survived but under serious economic and security pressure,' writes @SanamVakil via the @HooverInst.

"تُسرّع أزمة مضيق هرمز عملية إعادة تشكيل المشهد الإقليمي، في وقتٍ يخطط فيه العراق وسوريا ولبنان لإنشاء خطوط أنابيب نفطية وممرات نقل جديدة. لكن قدرة هذه البلدان على اغتنام فرصة تنويع مساراتها ستعتمد في نهاية المطاف على إجراء إصلاحات شاملة،" يكتب @renadmansour.

"Yemen remains one of the least understood countries in the region. When the war broke out in 2015, there were only a handful of international journalists in Sana’a.
Between 2001 and 2008, the international conversation was about what Yemen meant to Al-Qaeda. Then it became about Yemen and Iran, and then Yemen and Saudi Arabia – but never a conversation about Yemen itself."
@almuslimi (@CH_MENAP) discusses his encounters with the Houthis in Yemen during the Arab Spring, and his experience covering Yemen as an analyst. Read the full interview in the autumn issue of @TheWorldToday, the international affairs magazine of @ChathamHouse.

Over a million people – more than 15 per cent of Lebanon's population – have been displaced from the south in the past two years of fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, and Lebanon's government faces a long-term displacement crisis it can ill afford.
Statements from Israeli officials suggest that up to 600,000 people could be prevented from returning if Israel does not withdraw from the 'Yellow Line' buffer zone, south of the Litani river. And this is unlikely to happen if Hezbollah refuses to give up its arms.

'Increasingly... there is a recognition [among GCC states] that any durable regional order will have to include Iran & that dialogue may offer a more realistic path to stability than continued reliance on an uncertain external security architecture,' says @NeilQuilliam1 via @The_NewArab.
