I enjoyed this Baron Harkonnen arc.
This might genuinely be the coolest thing anyone has done in the entire series. Holy shit man.

Only a tiny fraction of the world’s mosquito species prey on humans. All of these are invasive across essentially their entire range, having tagged along with humans as we moved around the world. Multiple careful studies say that eliminating these species would have little or no impact on the environment. However, it would save at least a million human lives a year, and get rid of a constant source of discomfort that prevents people from safely spending as much time outside as they would prefer. Malaria is only one of dozens of diseases, many potentially fatal, spread by mosquitoes. Gene drives can safely and relatively inexpensively eliminate these parasitic insects; we can create male mosquitoes that can only have male offspring and which then crash the population. It’s well past time that we did it.

Ah yes, the primary obstacle to the money-saving roll out of clean energy generation is ... Environmental protection laws. Ffs.
Federal environmental review disproportionately harms clean energy projects. Reforms to NEPA that end the litigation doom loop are long overdue.

This makes total sense. Not everyone is on X listening to neck beards yell at them every day telling them they need a chief of staff bot. This needed to be baked into the product.
SPACEXAI 🔥: Grok Bot is getting a Primary Bot! Primary bot is meant to be your main AI assistant that can manage other bots and act proactively. > “I'm here to be your primary bot. I can manage your other bots. Task me with anything. I'll make sure it gets to the right bot.” > Bot prime appears in the latest iOS app. Now it’s a SpaceXAI turn to hop into a private assistant area and compete with Muse. I think it is also a best possible time for Grok Bot to capture global markets outside of US. Bot Prime! 🤖

Casey Handmer on why Starlink and Starmind are so valuable: "If you run the math: What is the revenue per watt of transmitted microwave power for Starlink? It's a billion times higher than space-based solar power. SpaceX is making money hand over fist with Starlink. So you take that model and say, we make lots of money transmitting data from your content delivery service like Netflix, but instead let's transmit tokens of some hyper intelligent model. Once you've got the hardware flying, what is the comparative value between your average Starlink bit versus your average Starmind bit? It's probably at least 1,000 times more valuable. It's not even in the same category. It will be interesting to see if economic demand for intelligence in the form of AI tokens can saturate. I suspect not."

While we're doing rational things by executive order, can we spend more than 0.05% of the federal NIH budget on studying the mechanisms of aging? By all means let's spend a Manhattan project on treating degenerative disease but can we please spend a Manhattan project on preventing old age? Can't get Alzheimer's or Parkinson's if your body never ages past 25.

Andy Burnham inherited an economy growing at a faster pace than thought as disposable income rose, mainly due to a rise in benefits.

It is actually possible to make planes functionally transparent to radar. Better hope the enemy doesn't have a webcam.
Replying to @beffjezos
Unless they figure how to make planes actually invisible, “stealth” just means low radar cross section in the 2 to 18 GHz range. Against an advanced enemy, current stealth technology is not worth the design constraints imo.

We have West Nile virus in the area around the Sultan Sea because as the sea recedes irrigation channels drain onto the exposed playa, pooling and creating habitats for mosquitoes. You might think that the obvious solution would be for a local government to hire a bulldozer contractor for half a day to extend the irrigation channel through the playa down to the current shore of the lake. But no, they have spent the last 20 years trying to track down helicopter pilots willing to spray pesticide on the playa, to almost no effect. We are not a serious people.
The White House has just said it wants to eliminate some mosquito species (and ticks) Is this good news? Yes! Ppl don't realize how bad they are, and how we already have the technology to do it! Here's the problem, the solutions we have, and why we haven't done anything yet:
