California
Huntington Beach has become a battleground in California politics. We’re one of the last cities willing to stand up to Sacramento, defend local control, support public safety, and protect the character of our community. That’s why this race matters. I’m fighting hard to keep common sense and local control in Huntington Beach, but I need your help getting our message directly to voters. We’re raising money now for our next round of mailers to cut through the political noise and make sure residents hear directly from us. If you can donate, even $25, $50, or $100, it makes a real difference. And if you can’t donate, sharing this message helps too. Help us keep Huntington Beach independent, patriotic, and focused on the people who actually live here: secure.anedot.com/gruel-for-…

Sounds great but one T-bone trick: the filet side cooks faster than the strip, so when you’re searing, keep the filet slightly farther from the hottest part of the pan.

Correct. Just give the cows diapers.

Buy organic cheese/milk. Some US dairies use Bovaer to reduce methane emissions from cows like Europe is doing.

Here is my pet peeve in action. A politician makes a stupid ad. Voters react. Voters get blamed. Sarah Huck Sanders made anti-white male slop. The blame falls on her and her campaign.
Right now is not the time to have stupid internal party fights. That’s what primaries are for. Now is the time to fight for every candidate up and down the ballot with an R next to their name. Spend the next 5 weeks helping GOTV not bitching on X about an ad in Arkansas.

Interestingly, a cow's methane output comes from burping, not farting. So we are a few interviews away from suggesting cows wear masks, preferably N95 ones.
This is the Christian pastor Democrats think Kansas voters will send to the senate. Democrat Christian leaders are... Weird. Why are they so weird?

And sadly, it's probably 10/27/27
Our team sent a simple question to LA's Bureau of Engineering about a sewer line that's already permitted, so that we can get Certificate of Occupancy to get the homeowners moved in. They say they'll get back to us 10/27. This is what building housing in LA looks like.

11.75% sales tax. This is wild. We are at 7.75 and there’s already leisure to increase. Of course I’m a no. Once these cities go up they never go back down. Then somehow they always run out of money.
This should alarm every Californian. As of Oct. 1, Lancaster and Palmdale in my district now have the highest sales tax in the state: 11.75%. Families here are already paying $6+ for gas. We cannot keep absorbing tax hike after tax hike. California’s majority party continues to raise costs and then blames everyone else for the affordability crisis. nypost.com/2026/10/01/lifest…

Cracking down on illegal vending is essential to maintaining a level playing field for local businesses. HB is bucking the California trend, as always.
Huntington Beach Code Enforcement officers work hand in hand with our Police, Fire, and Marine Safety partners to help keep everyone safe during the upcoming airshow. During the airshow, officers will respond to municipal code violations, illegal vending, as well as unpermitted kites, which can create risks when aircraft perform low-altitude maneuvers. Even small airborne items can affect the precision of these incredible flights. When we spot an issue, our officers take a friendly, educational approach, chatting with community members, explaining the rules, and helping make sure kites come down or unpermitted vending stops. This teamwork across all our public safety partners helps us resolve concerns quickly so the airshow can run smoothly for residents, visitors, and aviation fans alike. Please follow the rules and help us keep the airshow safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Great work LA
A Los Angeles homeless nonprofit received more than $118 million in public funding. Now federal prosecutors say its founder, Michael Young, diverted millions through sham contracts and fake invoices. Prosecutors say the money went toward things including a $1 million nightclub investment, a $50,000 trip to Tahiti and $140,000 to restore a vintage Chevy Impala. Another defendant is accused of billing for “ghost” clients who didn’t exist, while another allegedly bought a $7 million Westwood home and a vacation property in Greece. Meanwhile, homelessness keeps getting worse and taxpayers keep being told more money is the answer. This is fking disgusting. At some point we need to stop asking how much more money homelessness needs and start asking where the hell all the money already spent has gone.

Good rule of thumb - convection when you want browning and crisp edges; regular bake when you want gentler heat. Convection circulates hot air which is great for roasted vegetables, potatoes, and chicken skin. Regular bake is usually better for cakes, custards, delicate baking, and covered braises, where that airflow doesn’t add much. If a recipe calls for regular bake and you switch to convection, generally lower the temperature by 25F and check early.

@ChefGruel in one of your recent videos you guided to use Bake not Convection. Is there a rule of thumb on when to use each?
