Running bare-metal OS installs on homelab hardware in 2026 feels like a missed opportunity. Throwing Proxmox or LXCs on everything makes troubleshooting so much easier when you inevitably break a config at 1 AM.

A maxed-out Raspberry Pi 5 setup with NVMe HATs easily costs $150+. At that point, a used 1L Micro PC or enterprise node crushes it on raw compute per dollar.
