Writing async function without await is dangerous. FastAPI is smart enought to put all synchronous functions(which are just def) into a separate/external thread pool while main async event loop still takes the requests. But if you start with async def and don't use await, it blocks the main event loop. You can clearly observe the differences between true async and async without await(sync-blocking, 2nd pic)

Yet I just crammed 11 AI agents into a single Python file no LangChain, no LangGraph, just asyncio, httpx, and pure string concatenation pretending to be context. It broke spectacularly in 7 different ways. Each failure taught me more than any “successful” project ever did.

I knew about AI and LLMs the exact day ChatGPT dropped in 2022. But I was that guy.
I’d just use them. Copy-paste prompts. Laugh at how smart it was. Then go back to grinding LeetCode and building regular apps.
My dream? Become a solid Software Engineer. AI was cool… but not my lane.
Fast forward to 2026.
