Who are the ppl in your career who took a chance on you? Who either put their time, reputation, or even money on the line to open doors for you?
Excited to introduce @Cosign: the curated professional network for the startup community: cosign.co Our goal is to create the following: - A comprehensive startup directory of investors, companies, and operators, including what they worked on and who they worked on it with. - Cosign graph: Who shaped your career? Who were you actually in the trenches with? Who would work with you again? Who thinks you’re someone to watch? - Durable reputation: Great endorsements happen every day on X and disappear into the feed. Cosign attaches those signals permanently to people and companies. - Discovery: Who are the best fintech angels? Which AI companies should I watch? Who are the best designers? - Intent network: Privately signal “I’d invest in them,” “I’d hire them,” “I’d work with them,” or eventually even “I’d acquire this company.” Match people when interest exists on both sides. Imagine if Wikipedia, LinkedIn, and OG AngelList had a baby. Though Cosign is a community, not a business. In order to join, you need to be cosigned. Or you can apply directly. David Booth and I started this idea 7 years ago but didn’t have the firepower to make it work. Now we do. No one has really touched LinkedIn in 20 years. Excited to take a swing. cosign.co

Introducing Discourse: Where the world’s foremost monitors assemble to discuss the situations of the day. discourse.cosign.co
Excited to release Discourse, a tech forum for the modern era. discourse.cosign.co Today, the discourse in tech is either free for all (broadcast social networks) or completely private (group chats). There’s no midsize social network where a few thousand tech leaders talk to each other. We'll have a hybrid model. Some people will have access to post directly, and everyone else's posts will go through a queue. We'll start with ~5,000 white-listed people, and more people who post smart comments will be given direct access over time. Discourse is built off the @cosign graph and will be embedded into the platform. We’ve partnered with our favorite monitors to make sense of what’s happening in real time. P.S. True to form, I actually built a version of this a decade ago called @beondeckdaily, inspired by Hacker News.

One of the (many) most fun parts of @cosign is our take on the "six degrees of separation" game On the "discover" page there's a graph view, where you can: - randomly generate a starting point (random Cosign profile) - expand that node's connections - cosigns, lists - try get from there, back to you cosign.co/discover/graph

Waitlisted @cosign users can now browse existing profiles, Wikipedia rabbit hole as far as they want, and suggest edits where they see mistakes. You can check out cosign.co/discover/graph and hop around a bit! Waitlisted users can also contribute to community cosign lists. Users with access should now see a new, simpler home feed excperience geared around cosigns and forming new connections. Our private beta is a way to allow us to iterate and really get the product right before allowing for mass consumership, we are working hard every day at nailing this for all of you!

if you're on @cosign: 1- check out the new network page (cosign.co/discover/network) to see what/who your mutuals have been cosigning! 2- we've separated "cosigns" from "lists" as distinct primitives. Going forward ‣ a cosign is a strong + intentional vouch .. three categories only ... you can cosign someone who "will be a star" .. "shaped your career" or "would work with anywhere" ‣ a list is a collection of things- people, companies, products you choose to curate for any given reason .. more akin to a spotify playlist or pinterst board. It could carry signal, e.g. "david's list of the best designers i love working with", but i'd consider this a less substative "vouch" than a cosign. 3- invitations have been replaced by "nominations" .. There is no such thing as "inviting someone" to cosign - tou can cosign them, AND nominate them to join. We're ramping up new onboardings as fast as possible and - and prioritizing people who submit answers in advance via the typeform (cosign.typeform.com/waitlist) if you're new to cosign: there's a brand new onboarding flow!! stay tuned for daily updates & let us know what you wanna see
We shipped a few changes to @cosign this weekend 1 - we launched cosign.co/discover/network to let you see what people and companies your mutuals have been cosigning 2 - a new onboarding experience! 3 - cosigns and lists are now distinct primitives. you cosign someone for something (will be a star, shaped your career, or would work with anywhere) 4 - invitations have been replaced by nominations, and inviter/invitees are now displayed on your profile. while we would love to have cosign be strictly invite-based, we want to ensure cosigns mean something, and aren't given away to strangers on X 5 - some general bug fixes, though we have more to come here We are committed to making cosign the best professional network in the world. Our product at launch had some bugs that definitely affected UX, and some product kinks that weren't fully fleshed out. We apolgize for that, and we thank you for your patience! I'll be regularly discussing our new changes + hearing out what you all want to see from this product next. Also, we have something big coming for our waitlisted users later this week😉

Mike Markkula, a former manager at Intel, cosigned Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1977. Jobs and Wozniak sold a VW bus and a calculator to fund their first computer. Markkula wrote them their first check. Jobs: "I thought it was unlikely that Mike would ever see that $250,000 again, and I was impressed that he was willing to risk it."

Ben Horowitz cosigned the Databricks co-founders in 2013, when they were Berkeley academics. " When I met with them, they were like, 'We need to raise $200,000.'" "I said, 'I'm not gonna write you a check for $200,000. I'll write you a check for $10 million.'" "You need to build a company. You need to really go for it if you're gonna do this, otherwise you guys should stay in school."

Replying to @cosign
I met @jordanodinsky when I was a college student — I was taking time off, working at a startup in Tel Aviv and trying to figure out what to do with my life. He met me for coffee, brought me into his campus scout program, and told me to get on Twitter & start publishing my writing. I followed his advice, and a couple months later I got my first internship in VC with @jmj through a tweet. Needless to say, Jordan (and then Jeff!) changed my life 🙂
