from all of my years of experience there is only one rule that was proven more than a thousand times. if programming language name contains java (java and javascript) that means that language sucks. speaking about why specifically java sucks so much well i’m 20 years old and my bad experience with java started probably at the age of 13 while i was playing minecraft. modding 1.7.10 and make sure that it works is insane especially when you’re a kid and have no programming experience. modding design of minecraft and the way forge supposedly works with java is by changing obfuscated bytecode to another extended version of it to change the functionality of specific item or add another one. do you have any idea how terrible of a concept it is????? i could only imagine what would’ve happened to minecraft if it was originally written in any other normal language like rust or c++ or even c#. java is a language with 3 different packages managers, 20 runtimes, 15 versions and a trillion problems with ownership and copyright and spec. what’s even worse is that it’s all slow and stupid, cold jvm is basically python and warm jvm is still slower than other languages. and some very smart people still think that writing kafka in java was somehow a great idea. so they decided to write pulsar on java as well. have you seen the way that @jetbrains IDEs work? takes a whole minute to start everything. and it’s not even vibe coded it’s just the way java performs. terrible language to work with memory directly or write ffis. i’ve had an experience of writing rust JNI bridge and a build script for automated compilation for kotlin. boy oh boy. java is not fully compiled so you have to either bundle it with runtime or have runtime preinstalled amounts of boilerplate code and generated methods where name of the method generates sql is genuinely most insane thing i’ve ever seen. oh yes and once jvm allocated 100% of my ram for a small tcp server because i’ve forgotten to mention it in my start script. so yes there is not a single thing in this language that is good. and yes somehow bad or slow language can still produce good performance if you properly optimise it. if you use simple one threaded lib in rust to parse json it’s going to be slower than multithreaded simd optimised library designed for parsing huge payloads. something bad can still result in good thinks happening and that doesn’t mean that we need more of bad things to be done. that means that we need more of the good results. rust version of kafka might’ve been much faster and easier to handle without sacrificing much of its speed and capacity or clustering. but what do i know right
