Half a million downloads in a month. Today, our open source family takes another step forward. Thank you for the incredible support behind our first-generation models. We’re excited to introduce TwIL-LM3-Pro. At just 3.6 billion parameters, it brings powerful reasoning to everyday computers, with quantized builds that run locally. No cloud required. In our evaluation: Formal logic: Highest recorded headline score among the small models compared—beating China’s VibeThinker-3B by 35% and Qwen3.5-4B by 24%, and Liquid AI’s LFM2.5-8B-A1B by 47%. Broader reasoning: 95% on SVAMP and 64.1% on MuSR, the highest recorded scores among the small models compared. BIG-Bench Hard’s logic subset: 95.4%, compared with VibeThinker-3B’s 61.1%. We believe AI is entering a post-training era. The advantage will increasingly belong to companies with the best pipelines and those that can produce capable, personalized intelligence faster and more efficiently, then put it on devices people already own. That’s what we’re building at webAI. And we’re only beginning to share what’s coming out of our lab. Coming soon: Meridian, our family of frontier-class models built to run on device. Our most advanced models will be available through the @thewebAI application. Join the waitlist as we expand access. Proudly built in Austin, Texas. 🇺🇸

Anthropic will lose. @sama is showing that he is capable of navigating the mind virus. Based on what I see today, @OpenAI winning vs. Anthropic as a frontier lab would be better for the world.
I am very uncomfortable about people trying to ascribe religious force or a surrender of human judgment to AI models, and think it is a real safety issue.

AI models are not conscious. A CEO or leader who seriously claims that current systems are conscious is either profoundly confused about the technology or engaged in deliberate misrepresentation, and is unfit for authority over AI development or deployment. Current models are large statistical systems trained to predict tokens. They have no evidence of subjective experience, unified agency, persistent self-models independent of the prompt, or any of the functional markers that would be required even on generous functionalist accounts of consciousness. Anthropomorphic outputs are produced because the training data is full of human self-description; that is imitation, not evidence of an inner life. Treating such claims as a reason for removal from power is therefore not a medical diagnosis. It is a judgment about competence and incentives. Leaders who assert consciousness in present systems either do not understand what they are shipping, or they benefit from the confusion—through valuation narratives, regulatory positioning, or public relations. In either case they are poor stewards of a technology whose real risks (capability, misuse, concentration of power) are already concrete and do not require speculative inner experience to matter.
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

Tokens are a terrible way to price intelligence because token volume has no reliable relationship to customer value. A thousand tokens might solve a critical problem or produce a completely wrong answer. The customer pays either way. That’s the structural tension in centralized cloud AI: providers incur costs every time their models run, so they’re pushed toward pricing based on consumption. But recovering the provider’s costs is very different from delivering value to the customer. Customers care about problems solved, time saved, and work completed. More tokens don’t necessarily mean more of any of those. Sometimes they just mean a bigger bill.
NEW: AI Spend FALLS in the latest Ramp AI Index. Price cuts at the frontier, in addition to cheaper and more efficient models at standard and lite levels, are pushing down the cost of using AI. Open source models remain <5% of business spend. This decline in spend is driven almost exclusively by competition between OpenAI + Anthropic.

If SpaceX’s IPO felt wishful, Anthropic’s IPO is delusional. 2025: $4.6B revenue, $8B operating loss, $42B GAAP loss ($34B of it a non-cash mark). $190–200B projected in 2028. That’s ~31x current pace or ~10x a 2028 slide. reuters.com/business/finance…

🚨 BREAKING: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declares OpenAI management personally responsible for HuggingFace hack > "The Hugging Face incident, that is the responsibility of the OpenAI management, not a bunch of agents." > "It is humans who are responsible, not the AI." > "What we shouldn’t do on safety is to give these labs a liability exemption, which is what they are asking for." > "The best way to guarantee safety is that the creators are liable for what they build and generate." It’s OVER

Looks like today may be a record day for token volume % of open models on Vercel AI Gateway: 🟦 Open 78.4% 🟨 Closed 21.6% While spend 💲 usually tells a different story, #3 and #4 today are Moonshot AI & DeepSeek. Adding Z.ai, their combined spend surpasses OpenAI (#2). (Do note that's the spend for inference of the model across providers (mostly in the US), not revenue going directly to the open weight labs.)

don't get one-shotted by this it's not a general language model and can't generate free form text it's probably a specialized diffusion model and it can only output a few different primitives and requires definitions of the output format
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

Sir, you somehow united the US president, China, Jensen Huang, and half the AI industry against us. you achieved GLOBAL COORDINATION but AGAINST pacing.
Holy crap POTUS just phoned in @JensenHuang live on stage at All In Summit We will not lose the ai race! And whatever Dario said this weekend won’t stop our progress This made my morning! $NVDA

You want rules before the race is even contested: safety cases, independent auditors, industry standards, then a federal framework. The labs writing those rules already run the process. China will not adopt it. Open-source will not. Smaller labs cannot. So the policy does two things at once: it slows the actors who show up to the meeting, and it turns your internal paperwork into the law. That is not safety. That is regulatory capture.
The world deserves confidence that American companies developing increasingly capable AI will act responsibly, especially as the trajectory of progress has steepened. Every frontier lab must deliver on this, and there is no reason any of us should come to work if we cannot. We welcome a federal framework that sets consistent safety requirements for frontier AI. But we do not believe we need to wait for an anti-trust exemption or legislation to begin the work of providing this confidence. Consistent rules to manage frontier risk so that we can maximize the benefits are a good idea (and we are excited by ideas like independent auditors). Years ago, companies like ours developed things like Responsible Scaling Policies and Preparedness Frameworks. Those were good for that moment, and focused primarily on the deployment of completed models, not what happens during their development process. Today's shift to focusing on safe development and evaluation will need new tools. For example, at OpenAI we now formulate explicit safety cases in advance of frontier reinforcement learning runs we expect to significantly increase capability, in addition to the safety work we have long done in advance of model releases. We hope that other companies will learn from our approaches and propose their own; we think shared standards for misalignment, monitoring, and safety will lead to better outcomes. We look forward to collaborating with our colleagues across the industry to formulate the best version of these. When we talk about “pacing”, we do not mean “stopping”. Progress has been rapid and will continue to be. But it should be slower than it otherwise could be; interventions like safety cases and monitoring have significant costs. Pacing will be well worth this cost; no amount of American competitive pressure should justify recklessness, or let capabilities get ahead of alignment and monitoring. Where we will need the help of our government is for international coordination. But first we should do what we can ourselves.

Right. Dario was already claiming that GPT2 was too dangerous to open source back in 2019. I made fun of them then. Everyone should make fun of them now.
