The Soviet Exploration of Venus, Bossart: America's Forgotten Rocket Scientist. Bell Labs, Princeton University, Microsoft Research.

In the 1940s, science fiction author Robert Heinlein knew that atomic hydrogen would be the ultimate rocket fuel that would make his stories of routine interplanetary travel physically possible. Heinlein was correct, but for other reasons, this super fuel is impossible to use. Atlas missile designer, Charlie Bossart, studied the possibility of a near competitor, triatomic hydrogen, which was thought to exist at the time. But it was later proved to be unstable.

I came across triatomic hydrogen H3 while writing the biography of Charlie Bossart, and I remembered Heinlein mentioning it. It doesn't work, but it's not an entirely dumb idea. Here is the apparatus they used attempting to make H3.

I believe this footage is from a military exercise, not a real battle. I doubt if real battles have this kind of nonstop action and perfectly captured footage. But it demonstrates contemporary weaponry.

Grok, what if this picture of my brothers and me were a daguerreotype from the mid 19th century?

Bricks: here is a more sophisticated use of AI by an excellent history of science channel. I generated a report with Grok and fed it to Notebook, but this YouTube video is a full-blown AI video production, script , key images to video, narration, etc. piped.video/watch?v=GC1h0eLU…

A heavy satellite put into a high energy orbit for the National Reconnaissance Office. It likely joins another mystery satellite in a highly inclined 11,000 km circular orbit. This is a new project of unknown purpose.

It's speculation, but the launch trajectory looked the same as NROL-101, sent up by Atlas V.

HOLY SHIT. OPUS 5.5 IS CRAZY. Napoleon's sharpest battle lasted a morning and won him Europe. I just had it turn that morning into a complete 5 minute film. All code. - It wrote the engine, the soldiers, the score, the voice. - The hills are the real battlefield from satellite data. - The sun rises where it actually rose on 2 December 1805. 90 minutes to build. 4 hours to render. $40 (cloud agent credits). Code + prompt below.

GPT 6 Astra discusses the problem of creating Artificial Super Intelligence. After some discussion, I had it generate a script for Gemini Notebook.

How can we know what is the true news about world events? ChatGPT-6 Astra discussed this. It makes good points, but ultimately it doesn't have useful advice. Nobody has time to read court transcripts and watch hours of CSPAN video. We hope professional journalists will do this, but they are only human and have biases and conflicts of interest. My own solution is imperfect but I don't have a better idea: set X to Following/Recent, and follow a diverse set of news sources (AP, Politico, Reuters, DropSite, Al Jazeera, Jerusalem Post, TASS, China Xinhua, etc.) It's all propaganda, but I avoid the most extreme stuff -- Nick Fuentis, MeidasTouch, etc. I do follow some independent journalists with strong points of view, like Mike Benz or John Kiriakou, because I think they are smart and knowledgable.

AIs don't really seem to get politics. I think part of the problem is they are heavily clicker trained to not say anything controversial. If GPT Astra ground for 20 hours, could it tell you who shot Kennedy? Maybe. But it won't tell you or me. Haha.

There is plenty of "AI slop" out there, but I see people learning to make good content with new tools. AI is letting people express themselves visually without the expense and politics of conventional film making. piped.video/watch?v=-erckefG…
