An intriguing mechanism of germline cyst formation through innovative live imaging in fetal mice gonads, and computational modeling.
Check out my dispatch in @CurrentBiology on this beautiful work.

New paper alert!
Amazing grad students @levy_ezra and Isabella Leite live image female germline cyst formation in embryonic gonads of mice and discover that even as these structures form, through divisions with incomplete cytokinesis, germ cells are incredibly motile.
Moreover, we show that this randomly oriented motility drives occasional cyst fracture events, breaking the connections between germ cells and leading to cysts with variable sizes.
Very excited to see what this new approach can teach us about germline dynamics and to understand how oocytes emerge form cysts of variable sizes.
A shout out to @CurrentBiology and our reviewers for the fantastic publishing experience!

Introducing efficient prime editing in early mouse embryos, aka PEmbryo! nature.com/articles/s41587-0… Product of a wonderful collaboration with my friend and colleague @bsadamson, spearheaded by amazing trainees Ryan McNulty and @rpkimyip. In brief:
..this is not a caveat if you are studying the developmental or physiological phenotype resulting from a specific edit. But if you are thinking about therapeutic applications… this is likely not your tool.
Delighted to see our paper out today in @JCellBiol! Thanks to the reviewers and editors for helpful suggestions for improvements and the impressively fast turnaround. Using our mTurq2-Col4a1 mouse model we uncover new basement membrane dynamics during embryonic development🐁
Jones, Devenport et al. @PrincetonMolBio describe a new mouse model for live visualization of the basement membrane (BM) in which endogenous type IV collagen is fluorescently labeled. bit.ly/3t0oYHb#Adhesion#Development
Delighted to share our new pre-print and introduce the mTurq2-Col4a1 mouse model in which collagen IV is endogenously tagged - thanks to all authors! A Window into Mammalian Basement Membrane Development: Insights from the mTurq2-Col4a1 Mouse Model biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Job alert: We're looking for a new cell biology faculty member here @PrincetonMolBio.
I can say that the past 8 years here have easily been the most fun & fulfilling in my research career. Apply to be our colleague! (deadline Nov 1)

Wonderful collaboration with Stas Shvartsman’s group, including Lisa Brown, @yelnunnedyah , and @bingluns, establishing robust 3D nuclear instance segmentation for time lapse datasets of developing preimplantation mouse embryos.
-5 different neural nets benchmarked, with Stardist-3D showing superb performance across all preimplantation stages
Stay tuned for what this method is allowing us to do!
