From research to startup and scaleup: that journey is what Europe must accelerate. Rise Europe and UnternehmerTUM show the value of hands-on support, strong university links and collaboration across the innovation ecosystem.  (1/2)

I strongly condemn Russia’s drone strike on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv. Science is about building the future, not destroying it. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Ukrainian scientific community. Europe stands with Ukraine!
In broad daylight, Russia struck a building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the very heart of Kyiv. Tragically, there are reports of people killed and injured in the attack. There is no bottom to Russia’s cynicism. A scientific institution full of people in the middle of a working day has become another target of its terror. Russia is deliberately expanding the boundaries of what it believes the world will tolerate. Every attack left without a strong response only encourages the next one. Our partners have the means to change this calculation. Ukraine urgently needs more missile interceptors to protect our cities, tougher sanctions to deprive Russia of resources for its war, and stronger pressure on everyone who helps Moscow sustain its killing machine. Russia must learn that every attack has consequences. The price of attacking Ukrainian civilians must become unbearable for the aggressor. We also call upon @UNESCO – the Organization dedicated, among other things, to protecting science and the scientific community – to strip the aggressor state of its voice, voting rights and its eligibility for election to any governing or working bodies.

The biggest challenges we face do not stop at borders. At today’s ministerial roundtable in Munich, we discussed how stronger cooperation across countries and disciplines can turn Europe’s research strength into solutions for climate, energy and food security. (1/2)

Today, science became a target for Russia. My heart goes out to the heroes searching for people trapped inside Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences. As well as to the families and loved ones of the victims of horrific attacks across the country. We stand with them. And with all Ukrainians. Europe is working harder than ever to strengthen Ukraine’s defence.
A Russian strike against the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. A rescue operation is underway: crews are putting out the fire and searching for people who may have been trapped inside. All services are deployed. Today in Kyiv, a pharmaceutical company and gas stations were also attacked; in Dnipro, a business center; and in other cities and regions, civilian facilities, businesses, and communications infrastructure were targeted as well. Sadly, people have been killed… My condolences to their families and loved ones. Russia will definitely face a response to this. And every one of Ukraine’s partners must see from this terror, from these strikes, that supporting Ukraine means truly supporting people’s lives – supporting the principle that terror must never be normalized, anywhere. Russia must be held accountable for all of this and face real consequences. I thank everyone who helps Ukraine!
