Good change! I use a heavily modified version of this template and this is one of the big changes I made for myself. I couldn't tell how you are doing your approach to this; I just route through a /{path} to /dist in prod and tanstack server in dev, but I didn't see evidence of that perusing the code for a couple min. you may be doing a less janky job than I am of this. 🤔

I hope FastAPI is not moving away from micro service to accomidate all these things. size and flexbility is still one of the reasons developers are adopting FastAPI. :)

Same-origin is a bigger win than just avoiding CORS. Cookies, auth redirects, local setup and deployment all become simpler too. The tradeoff is coupling frontend and backend releases, which is often perfectly fine for one product.

Serving the frontend from FastAPI itself is such a nice simplification for smaller apps. One deploy and no CORS nonsense is a pretty good trade.
