Some people scream “AI SLOP!” at indie devs before they’ve even played the game. Then you see “COMMISSIONS OPEN” in their bio, and the anger starts to make sense: you built something without paying them. You’re free to dislike AI. You’re free to sell your art. Harassing devs because they didn’t commission you is something else.

Hey! I got a few new follows so, wanted to reintroduce myself. 💜👋 I’m Eleni. I've worked in games for 10+ years. I help games find their people and have accumulated an unreasonable number of opinions about marketing along the way. I love video games and turned that into a career across AAA + indie, growth marketing, creators + tech. I’m also a Women in Games Ambassador, mentor women breaking into games + tech, and remain deeply unwell about Kingdom Hearts. And when the 9-to-5 ends, there is very often a 5-to-9 because apparently I enjoy creating additional work for myself. 👩‍💻 Mostly I yell about games, marketing, the creator economy, women in tech + career things I learned the hard way. Anyway, hi. :) 💜

One downside of the AI boom: My son used to think coding was super cool. He wanted to learn and had already started building small things. Today he told me: "I don't think I care anymore. AI can just do all of it now. It doesn't feel special anymore." ☹️

I’m dropping a new song this Friday, 9/18. It’s one of my favorite songs that I’ve made. It’ll mean a lot to me if you listen to it.

Man there is some miserable ass people everywhere on social media. Don’t be that person. Don’t add to that negativity in the conversation. Do better. Criticizing/analyzing media is perfectly fine. Being an asshole is a whole other conversation. I’d much rather the former.

vitvit Driver 3D is one of those super cool indie charmers that comes from some sort of crazy genius creative, artistic mind. This kind of little indie darling game cannot come from committee, or someone in pursuit of just making a quick buck. i definitely recommend picking it up if you havent. its wildly charming. store.steampowered.com/app/4…
Ermm @Steam @valvesoftware ban this user 🤓 he doesn't understand my game after 0.3 hours, truly a review abusing the review system 😤 ever since I got this review, my revenue tanked and I'm gonna seriously die of starvation, they ruined my career it's so over son

Thank you, @Steam @Steam_Support for allowing complete nonsense like this in reviews. Glad to see that the review system isn't being abused at all. #Steam #IndieDev #EatingGlue

This witch hunt is fucking annoying. People should stop doing it. All it does is driving development towards using genAI. Because... You get accused anyway.
My wife is a Human Being, I swear! Haha. In today's age when people hear a voice in an indie game that doesn't sound AAA quality, do they just automatically assume "Ai" now?

Replying to @MV_Raffa
This 100%. If i go the harder route with the few resources i have to make sure the voices in my game are Human, and I still get accused of Ai... then why am I not just using Ai? Haha

I honestly feel sad for people. I feel like their hobby is just hating on games instead of playing them.

One of the best advices ever.
"Make small games" is NOT just beginner advice. It is also one of the best commercial strategies for indie developers. Yes, small games are great for learning. You will learn a lot more by finishing 10 small games than by endlessly working on one giant project that never ships. Every finished game teaches you something. * Scoping * Design * Programming * Polish * Marketing * Steam pages * Trailers * Launches * Player feedback * Post-launch updates You don't really learn those things fully until you actually finish and release something, that's why I encourage you to take your projects to the finish line. BUT small games also help with success because they let you test more ideas. And ideas matter a LOT! A clever, marketable idea can make everything easier. A weak idea can make everything harder. If you only make one huge game, you are betting everything on one idea. But if you make several smaller games, you get several chances to find the idea that actually works. Some will fail. Some will do okay. Maybe one will hit. That is a much healthier path than spending years on one game while secretly hoping it becomes the next Stardew Valley. Those stories are inspiring, but they are also extremely rare. For every massive long-development success story, there are many developers who worked for years and launched to almost no attention. That is survivorship bias. So yes, make small games. Make them to learn faster. To release faster. To test ideas faster. To reduce risk. To avoid turning one failed launch into five years of pain. Small does NOT mean bad, small means focused. And focused games can be extremely powerful both for the developer while also being great for players since they have a ton more variety of games to play. - Code Monkey

I won't tolerate people not being civil to each other in my content. We are here to have fun, talk about games - maybe learn something. Start acting like a dick I'm just simply going to boot you out of accessing this content. My space is a place to have a good time, we are only here for a short time. No time for BS. Plenty of other places on the internet to act like a dipshit if that is what you are craving. It isnt here.

Are gamers too negative now… or has the gaming industry earned the negativity? Because it feels like damn near EVERY major announcement turns into a fight lately. What do you think?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel fatigued when it comes to gaming, especially the gaming space/community? The constant negativity is just tiring and on top of that the industry isn’t what it used to be
