Today I signed an Executive Order establishing a higher bar for data center development in Utah. Utahns deserve confidence that water resources, air quality, utility rates, wildlife, and quality of life will be protected. This framework helps ensure that data center development aligns with Utah’s long-term interests and reflects Utah values. In Utah, environmental stewardship and economic opportunity go hand in hand.

Congratulations to this year’s 24 Governor’s Award for Excellence honorees! Selected from more than 22,000 employees across Utah’s state agencies, they were recognized for their dedication to Utah and the people who live here. I was proud to celebrate them at the Capitol this week. Thank you for your service! More here: governor.utah.gov/uncategori…

We broke ground yesterday on Convergence Point, a new hub at The Point in Draper where Utah’s colleges and universities will work alongside businesses. Students will get hands-on experience, and researchers and entrepreneurs will have a place to work together on real problems. We have tremendous talent across Utah, and I’m excited to see what happens when we bring it together.

It was great to see students making time to read at the Capitol today! They joined an estimated 275,000 students and adults across Utah for our first Utah Reads Read-a-Thon. Thank you to Marissa’s Books for donating books for these students. Let’s keep reading and help our kids build a habit that will serve them for the rest of their lives!

Abby and I started the morning with a few good books and some great kids at Guadalupe School. We read together and helped students pick out books at the book fair to kick off the Utah Reads Read-a-Thon. Thank you to Guadalupe School, Cyprus Credit Union, and FOX 13 News for helping these kids take home their next favorite book!

Tomorrow, Utah is coming together to read. More than 275,000 people are taking part in a statewide read-a-thon on Oct. 2. Hundreds of schools are joining in, along with libraries and businesses across the state. Abby and I invite you to join us for an hour of reading, wherever you are. Our kids need to see that reading matters to us, too. Pick up a book and help them build a habit that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

Best known for his distinctive paintings of barns and landscapes, Justin Wheatley has a remarkable ability to capture the places that shape us and the feeling of home. Growing up near the Great Salt Lake helped shape the way Justin sees the natural world, while his own teachers inspired him to become an educator. Today, he shares his talent and love of art with his students at Granite Connections High. It was a privilege to recognize Justin with a Governor’s Mansion Artist Award. Congratulations, Justin, and thank you for inspiring the next generation of Utah artists.

Castleview Hospital in Price is opening Utah’s first rural inpatient behavioral health unit. For families in Carbon and Emery counties, it means a loved one can receive treatment nearby during a mental health crisis. We need more places like this. A key initiative for my second term is to increase inpatient beds for patients with serious mental illness by 10%. Castleview is showing what that can look like in rural Utah. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Keep saving lives.

Utah’s first rural inpatient behavioral health unit will soon begin serving patients at Castleview Hospital, bringing specialized care closer to home for people in Carbon, Emery and surrounding counties. For too long, rural Utahns in a behavioral health crisis have had to travel hours from home or wait in emergency rooms for an available bed. This new 14-bed unit will help change that, with the capacity to serve up to 500 patients each year. I’m grateful to the Castleview team for taking a chance, leading the way and caring deeply about the people they serve.

Utah’s state fleet cut maintenance and repair costs by 15%, saving approximately $1.56 million a year. The team did it by keeping vehicles newer and negotiating standard repair prices. That’s GRIT: state employees finding practical ways to make taxpayer dollars go further.

A decades-old dispute. $60 million for the Great Salt Lake. And 22,000 acres protected as part of the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. This settlement is a major win for the lake, its wetlands and wildlife, and the people who depend on it. Grateful to @POTUS, the Utah Legislature and everyone who helped get this across the finish line. We’re going to save the lake.
