As Florida’s success has brought record tourism and new residents in recent years, we have made major investments in our transportation infrastructure. @MyFDOT has expedited dozens of critical transportation improvements throughout the state since 2023 thanks to our Keep Florida Moving initiative.   Today, I was proud to announce that the River Road widening project from I-75 to U.S. 41 has been completed ahead of schedule. These improvements will go a long way toward meeting travel demand and relieving congestion in Sarasota County.

Great to be in Sarasota County today to celebrate the completion of the SR-777 (River Road) widening project ahead of schedule. The new lanes from I-75 to U.S. 41 will help relieve congestion and make this heavily used section of roadway safer.   In addition to the lane expansion, this project has improved drainage, shared-use paths, wildlife crossings, signing and pavement markings, lighting, and intersection safety. We’re proud of Florida’s excellent fiscal condition and @MyFDOT efficiency for making these improvements possible throughout the Sunshine State.

More than three million people use Florida’s Turnpike every day. We’ve made significant investments in expanding lane capacity to relieve congestion all along the Turnpike. Today, I announced an additional investment to improve 19 restaurants and retail locations across six Turnpike service plazas. In the three years since we launched Moving Florida Forward to expedite high-priority transportation projects, @MyFDOT has accelerated infrastructure improvements throughout the state. We will keep working to ensure that our roadways are safer, more convenient, and better-maintained than ever before.

As Florida has grown, we have made major investments in our transportation infrastructure to reduce congestion and improve our roadways. We’re investing over $20 billion to widen the entire 320-mile route along the Turnpike from South Florida to I-75 in Wildwood. We have already made great progress toward that goal, with 284 lane-miles completed so far. Today, I was proud to announce an additional investment of nearly $8.5 million in improving the service plazas along the Turnpike. These investments will ensure that Florida’s Turnpike keeps pace with our state’s growth and provides the best experience possible for residents, visitors, and businesses.

We have prioritized election integrity in Florida. I was proud to enact major reforms to ensure the security of our elections. The results are in: For three cycles in a row now, Florida has been the national model for conducting efficient, responsible, and transparent elections. We have zero tolerance for voter fraud. Today, @AGJamesUthmeier announced the arrests of 12 individuals, most of whom are non-citizens, for voting illegally in Florida. We will not tolerate attempts to undermine the integrity of our electoral process, and we will hold accountable those who violate our laws. I was proud to announce that the newly formed Association of State and Local Election Officials will bring together election officials from across the country to improve election administration and restore public trust in our electoral systems. Under the leadership of Cord Byrd, Florida’s own Secretary of State, we are committed to helping other states replicate the successes we have seen in Florida.

Today, we welcomed lottery leaders from around the world to the Sunshine State for the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries conference in Orlando. The @floridalottery was created to generate revenue for education. Nearly four decades on, generations of students have benefited. Today, Florida has the lowest in-state university tuition in the nation and our Bright Futures scholarship provides full or partial tuition awards. 75% of our in-state students graduate with zero debt!

I enjoyed visiting the University of Alabama today to discuss our policy victories in Florida over the last eight years. Florida is proof that big results in education, infrastructure, and conservation can be achieved without sacrificing fiscal discipline. We have made transformative investments in core responsibilities, from disaster preparedness and public safety to teacher pay and cancer research. At the same time, we've reduced spending for four consecutive years, and we're on track to repay more than half of all state debt accumulated since statehood. Florida now leads the country in workforce education. We have seen record-breaking enrollment in career and technical education, as well as tremendous growth in registered apprenticeship programs. Now, we are focused on expanding these opportunities so that more Floridians can benefit from them. Students enrolled in workforce education and training programs in Florida can now access the same federal financial aid funding available to those pursuing traditional four-year degrees. Workforce Pell Grants help students get credentials that lead directly to employment in high-skill, high-wage, in-demand occupations. Florida has more than 100 eligible programs, and these will now be more affordable for students throughout the Sunshine State.

Great to be at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne today to announce the statewide implementation of the Workforce Pell Grant, which will help students in eligible programs throughout our state earn career credentials with little to no debt. Florida is #1 in workforce education, and the Workforce Pell Grant funding enables us to build on our track record of success. The programs eligible for Workforce Pell funding are preparing students for high-wage, in-demand careers. We’re glad that thousands more Floridians will be able to take advantage of these opportunities without needing to take out loans or break the bank.

Happy Constitution Day! The US Constitution is designed to realize and secure the ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence through a system premised on the need to separate, check and balance power. The framers understood that “if men were angels no government would be necessary” and “if angels were to govern men neither internal nor external controls on government would be necessary.” The constitutional architecture has witnessed many perversions throughout recent history, including extraconstitutional assertions of authority by courts, the impotence of Congress, and the endurance of a permanent and too often unaccountable bureaucracy. But it still remains the best framework for self-government ever devised. As we celebrate 250 years of the American experiment (with 239 of those under the Constitution), we should work to usher in a constitutional renaissance that will restore that great document to its rightful place at the center of American civic life.
