Please join us in recognizing Detective Walt Leddy as our September Detective of the Month! On March 22, 2026, we responded to a heartbreaking shooting that took the life of 2-year-old A'mahri Robinson. The suspect, 21-year-old Steven Dodson, escaped before detectives could take him into custody. Detectives quickly worked to get an arrest warrant, but Dodson remained on the run. We put all available resources on the case, enlisting numerous units in the search. Detective Leddy, a member of our Gang Investigations Unit, and colleagues tracked Dodson, and arrested him in less than 24 hours. Dodson later pleaded guilty and is now serving a life sentence. Detective Leddy’s hard work and dedication played a large part in arresting Dodson and bringing some closure to Robinson's family in the wake of this unspeakable crime. We thank our entire team of officers, detectives, and analysts for working for justice.

125 lives lost on Jacksonville roads. As we work to prevent this, our detectives are working to investigate each death and hold drivers accountable. Our Traffic Homicide Unit detectives have a heartbreaking but important role in our community: responding to and investigating each traffic fatality. They take their work personally. From gathering surveillance footage and witness statements to extensive research and reconstructions of the crashes, our detectives can learn what led to a traffic fatality. Then, they can determine if someone should be held criminally responsible. They also help track down hit-and-run drivers. Lives are on the line. We don't want to lose someone else's loved one on our roads. Please slow down, stay off your phone, and drive safe, Duval.

Since October 2025, District 3 Officer Anthony Delacruz has investigated a series of thefts at the St. Johns Town Center totaling more than $20,000. After getting a tip that a driver was getting paid to take the thief to different stores to commit these crimes, our officers moved in. Officer Laurer spotted the suspect carrying more than $3,000 worth of merchandise. When the suspect took off, Officer Delacruz chased him and caught him hiding behind a dumpster. Officers also identified and arrested the driver who transported the thief. This is not a victimless crime. These thefts increase prices for merchandise and put customers and employees in danger. Great police work, a valuable tip, and teamwork helped bring this investigation to a close.

No matter how mad you get at them, don't hit your friends with your truck. That's a lesson a Northside man learned after a beef with his buddy. District 6 Patrol officers responded to the not-so-friendly encounter, tracked down the driver and noticed his truck was hidden under a tarp, still warm to the touch, with zip ties attempting to fix the damage. It didn't help his case, and he went to jail. It's all caught on camera in a recent episode of COPS. We're taking you inside the action on COPS all season long, with new episodes dropping every Friday on Fox Nation. These segments were recorded between March and April 2025 and have been edited for time.

“One case of domestic violence is one case too many.” October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is a crime. Survivors have nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of. Working with law enforcement can help save lives and hold abuserd accountable. In 2025, domestic violence claimed 21 lives in Duval County, including 10 deaths connected to intimate partner violence. Today, we stood alongside our local, state and federal partners in support of those living with or surviving abuse. Beth is a powerful example of the hope that can follow a life of abuse. After surviving domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband, Beth did the bravest thing she could do and left. She rebuilt her life. Today, she is getting remarried, pursuing her dream job, and thriving. Her story reminds us that survivors can find hope, rebuild, and create a future beyond abuse. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Call 911 or the JSO non-emergency line at 904.630.0500. You can also call the 24/7 Hubbard House Hotline at 904.354.3114. We will meet you where you are and work together to build a community where everyone feels safe, supported, and free from abuse. @HubbardHouse @SAO4Florida @CityofJax

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced the arrest of Patrol Officer Michael Schrum on one count of domestic battery, a first-degree misdemeanor, during a public briefing. On Tuesday, September 29, the victim, who is in a domestic relationship with Schrum, reported that Schrum committed a domestic battery on September 16. The JSO Integrity Unit launched an investigation and learned that Schrum was intoxicated, became enraged, and struck the victim multiple times, causing visible injuries. Integrity Unit detectives arrested Schrum Tuesday evening and stripped him of his police authority. While due process must be followed, the agency will seek Schrum’s termination. This is the 9th arrest of a JSO employee by the agency this year.

The fight for justice never stops. Last Wednesday, our officers made a fourth arrest in connection with the 2023 double murder of Bryant Grund and Antonio Tillie Jr. We arrested 31-year-old Jamaal Hameen on two counts of second-degree murder and one count of accessory after the fact. Hameen was already in our jail on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest. On October 6, 2023, 19-year-old Antonio Tillie Jr. and 31-year-old Bryant Grund were shot and killed on Kylan Drive. Our investigators determined that the double murder was tied to a $20,000 gang-related hit targeting Tillie. Grund was an Uber driver simply doing his job when he was killed. Hameen's arrest follows Ju’Quan Mills, Diamond Harris, and Jimmy Robinson, who have also been charged in connection with the case. For the families of Bryant Grund and Antonio Tillie Jr., we kept pushing forward. We kept investigating, identifying those responsible and holding everyone involved accountable.

Your safety is no game. Our Motor Unit officers put their motorcycle safety knowledge to the test… “Heads Up” style. From speeding to lane splitting, they see dangerous driving on motorcycles every day. But in all seriousness: street safety is no joke. This year alone, 15 people have lost their lives in motorcycle crashes on Duval County roads. That’s 15 too many. Whether you’re on two wheels or four, ride smart, watch for motorcycles, and slow down. Let’s bring that number down together. Ride and drive safe, Duval.

Three years on the run from Atlanta. It ended in Jacksonville. On Wednesday, we brought a multi-state manhunt to a close after our team tracked 43-year-old murder suspect Jonathan Soto to an apartment complex on Gate Parkway. Our SWAT team, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and @Atlanta_Police, with the help from our Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit, surrounded the apartment Soto was hiding in. He refused to come out, so we used an energetic charge to open the door. He knew his time on the go was up and he surrendered on a fugitive warrant for murder and possession of a firearm. Soto is the suspect in the February 2023 murder of a popular business owner at the Republic Lounge in Atlanta. He was on the Atlanta Police Department’s most wanted list and was considered armed and dangerous. We’ll keep working with our law enforcement partners to make sure justice is served. Fugitives may try to run, but we’re here to stop them. Soto will now have to face the consequences for what he did in Georgia.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Sheriff T.K. Waters and Team JSO enjoyed a refreshing start to their Saturday, walking through Lakewood for this month’s Sheriff’s Walk. We really can’t complain about this weather! Alongside District 1 Commander Jimmy Ricks, Sheriff Waters listened to residents’ questions and comments, even taking immediate action on some of their concerns. We want to thank everyone who gave us such a warm welcome. We do this monthly across the entire city. We hope to see you at our next Sheriff’s Walk, scheduled for October 10 in District 5 off Moncrief Road. More details coming soon!

It only takes a second to be kind. Our friends over at JFRD snapped this sunset photo after battling a house fire in District 2. Lt. Chris Winfree was leaving the scene when he overheard a child compliment him on his patrol car. Lt. Winfree stopped to take the opportunity to chat with the child and their family, giving them some stickers to take home. We work here, we live here, we build bonds here. Let's connect!

Our patrol officers tracked down and arrested a driver after a bizarre hit-and-run crash that left a pair of people injured. Thanks to some good police work, nearby officers caught the fleeing driver down the road. Despite denying having anything to do with it, physical evidence and witnesses helped us link the driver to the crash. It's caught on camera in a recent episode of COPS. We’re taking you inside the action on COPS all season long with new episodes dropping every Friday on Fox Nation. These segments were recorded between March and April of 2025 and have been edited for time. PS- We shouldn't have to say this, but if you're part of a crash, stick around.

Sometimes, the most important thing an officer can do is simply stay and talk. On Sunday, April 26, Officer Lindsey Shaw responded to a call that a woman was standing on the edge of a bridge in the New Kings Road area. The woman was threatening to take her own life. Officers Shaw began speaking with the woman, trying to get her to come to the other side of the barrier. At first, the woman refused, admitting she didn’t trust police officers. We have changed the woman's voice to protect her privacy. Officer Shaw didn’t stop the conversation. Over the hour long interaction, the relationship between Officer Shaw and the woman shifted from officer and person in need to just two people sharing their favorite superheroes. It was in that moment when Officer Shaw was speaking to the woman from her heart that the woman decided to climb back over the barrier. We are proud to share Officer Shaw was recognized this morning as our Police Officer of the Month. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, free and confidential help is available 24/7 by calling or texting 988.

No matter the excuse, speeding isn't ok. Officer Brittany Rosado with our Traffic Enforcement Unit caught some drivers going... as she said 'wicked fast'. That's not a good thing. Whether you're rushing to deliver food or running late to an appointment, driving over the speed limit isn't safe. We've lost more than 125 people on our roads in preventable traffic crashes. Don't let your speeding be the reason someone doesn't make it home. Drive safe, Duval.
