When you become an engineer in Canada, you take an oath To never cause harm/suffering/etc to humans as a result of your work This applies equally, if not more, to business Both can be used for good (to remove suffering) or evil (to add it) Do good work. Don't be evil

If it's not mostly out of your hands by now, you're way too slow
too much writing, too much thinking, too much planning, too much analysis. your pencils are sharp enough. theres not much time left now, its best if you get going.

Before the PC, we used floppy disks When we created the internet, and thus the browser, everything changed. The only remnant from the prior era? Going to "File > Save" and maybe you see a floppy disk All this to say, we have no idea what the "One True UI" looks like
There is only One True SaaS Layout. You may not like it, but this is what peak usability looks like

I maintain that if you copy things right now, you truly are screwing yourself We just have no idea what the emergent patterns are

BTW, the "Autonomous SRE" vision *only* works if you build primitives that specifically work for agents Instead of trying to cripple the ambitions of a fuzzy agent You create parallel universes where the agent can ambitiously make mistakes without impact
The future is where agents become the SRE team of your company (already is at many places). Agents keep the your site up, can investigate when it is slow, and fix it If your sites run on Railway, your agents can get e2e tracing out of it now! For absolutely free as well! (And even free users get 3 days of logs)

Now: "Hey Railway my database is slow can you fix it?" Soon: Infrastructure that just get faster/optimized by default
It's a bad day to be a slow (or broken) request 🔍 Tracing is now in preview. You or your agent can follow any request end to end, pinpoint what's slow or failing, and fix it Opt in, then set it up from the Traces tab railway.com/account/feature-…

You can throw bricks, or you can build things up that are so good the bricks just bounce off Your life becomes a lot more fun/fulfilling/etc when you choose the latter

"It's lonely at the top". They always say this but they never say why It's because, at a certain point, every decision is just pure tradeoffs which ends up disappointing someone As a result, you asymptotically approach 100% of your day making tradeoffs that disappoint *someone*

You are a struggling second tier competitor that is more unethical and lying just because you have no decency or sense of proper behavior and shows your desperation. Straight out lying about if Chris being fired I thought would be below even you.

Right now is such an interesting time You have to have the foresight and patience to build something that’s both hard AND inevitable Real “Skate to where the puck is going” moment
There's a kind of cruel cycle that plays out: 1. Labs start RL'ing towards a future product that requires xyz skill 2. People realize "wow models are getting great at xyz, i'm gonna make an xyz-wrapper startup" 3. Lab releases their 1st party xyz-wrapper-killer

If it’s not hard, bigger fish will do it If it’s not inevitable, it’ll miss the wave 🌊🏄‍♂️

Posit: All UI will become materialized through whatever the most flexible protocol that’s distributed to the most agents
okay but like what if you could ssh into a durable object wouldn’t that be cool

i think the toughest thing to understand is that it literally doesn't matter if your software is open source, closed source anymore - if it's closed source, people can and will RE: its internals, if it's a part of a broader suite, ppl will make it a plugin in their suite, if it's a model that people can blackbox fuzz and the model isnt huge and didn't have incredibly proprietary data, you are going to get copied on the tech so every core product launch probably needs to be treated as an extreme countdown race, before the incumbent with the distribution eats you brutal times to be playing, and extremely valuable/rare to find a corner of the stack that may be defensible and will stay defensible

Remains a mystery why people engaged in racing sandbox start times Nobody fucking cares beyond 1 second It’s about what you *build* with the primitives that matter
