SPARQL (a W3C standard) works for graph databases that conform to the W3C standard RDF model. Neo4j uses a different model called labeled property graphs.

Where is an implementation that people can play with? (Ideally, open source; if we all have to depend on one commercial company for the only implementation then there's not much point in having a standard.)

The Europeana SPARQL API “is different from the other Europeana APIs in that it allows you to explore connections between Europeana data and outside data sources, like VIAF, Iconclass, Getty Vocabularies (AAT), Geonames, Wikidata, and DBPedia.” pro.europeana.eu/page/sparql

I did a Google search for "we use SHACL" (with the quotes) and got a lot of interesting hits.

It was my idea. Angler fish live where the sea is so deep and dark that they have a light source on their head. That's hard to see in this picture; I should have suggested an angel fish, which is more sparkly.

Nice use of federated queries: "I used the data from @wikidata and crossed it with that of @NobelPrize (which has a query service via SparQL!! nobelprize.org/about/linked-…… )

And it all works fine with the free version of GraphDB!
Hop on a fun technical ride w/ @bobdc who experiments w/ using & managing JavaScript functions in @OntotextGraphDB, calling those functions from a #SPARQL query 🐇 hubs.la/Q02nG3Tj0
