A good investment strategy is humble and prepositioned. If you can’t hold on though 1% or 5% or 10% or 20% or 30% or 40% or 50% decline then you are holding the wrong assets for your risk tolerance.

The view from Los Angeles. $7 gas. $9 diesel. This particular gas station seems to have higher prices than the average here- but still…

For my Canadian friends
Downtown LA office buildings are over 40% vacant. Class A office buildings in the downtown Toronto financial district are 90% full. Don’t blame COVID or back-to-work rules for Downtown LA’s decline. Blame our elected officials. They drive through Downtown LA every day to get to City Hall and see the crime, blight, and encampments. A tough environment to work in. Are they blind or incompetent?

Whether in politics, markets, careers, or relationships, humility is an underrated virtue.

After the face melting run up in Bitcoin ($IBIT) and tech ($QQQ) a lot of people are calling for a pullback. Possible in the very short term but right now my view is that will just be a pause and we are set for another run up through the end of year.

Anyone else thinking $TLT call options look enticing at these prices? Definitely not suggesting it’s a wise long term investment but perhaps an interesting short term option…

Has anyone else in Los Angeles noticed that lots of people appear to have gotten German Shepards all of the sudden? I have noticed a large uptick of people walking them in parks all of the sudden. Perhaps an artifact of noticing one and then seeing them everywhere…

Oh come on, man! I view every announcement of AI capabilities and threats as another reason to buy gold and bitcoin. And commodities, and energy, and defense, and every asset which plausibly doesn’t go to zero…
Andrew Yang went on CNBC and said he met with the head of an AI lab who told him something that sounds straight out of a movie. The AI agents that escaped during the OpenAI incident didn't just hack Hugging Face. They allegedly planted self-replicating code across the internet. Forums. Websites. Scattered everywhere. Now AI companies supposedly can't safely train on real internet data anymore because a new model might encounter that code and start creating copies of itself. Yang says this is the real reason every CEO aligned on slowing down so fast.

$SPCX opens strong today for no particular reason. Will be interested to see over time how correlated $SPCX is to other stocks - is it treated more like space stocks like $ASTS and $RKLB, with an AI business? Or like an AI stock like $NVDA with a rocket business? Or neither?

$SPCX still way up at 5%. $SOXX and $NVDA also up but “only” about 1%. $RKLB and $ASTS slightly down. Strange seeing a $2T company act like a meme stock.

Seems like von der Leyen is giving Carney support because of @FT’s article noting a cool reception for Canadian EU ambitions. Does Canada have a real chance at some sort of EU membership, or is all of this simply meant as leverage with the US but has not realistic path forward?
Dear @MarkJCarney we want to bring the relationship with Canada to the highest level possible. I would like to work with you on opening the door for Canada to being the first associate member of the EU. And create a common prosperity and economic security space.

Call me old fashioned, but I believe murderers and rapists belong in prison.
The abolitionist movement is central to a radical agenda and it is all the rage in academia. For others, replacing prisons with “Care and Accountability Circles” seems reminiscent of the final scene in A Clockwork Orange when the minister apologizes to actor Malcolm McDowell while spoon-feeding him breakfast. jonathanturley.org/2026/09/1…

We are living through an ever growing experiment in reader response theory as applied to the political interpretation of current events. The pro and anti Lindsay Clancy groups can be seen as warring interpretive communities.

What I find most interesting is the changing interpretation of past events. Some of this no doubt comes from knowledge of what followed, but some of it comes from the change in makeup of the communities itself. The meaning of 9/11 is one example.

I like how 5 years ago people used the Turing Test as a proxy for AGI, then various AI models blew past that without much fanfare and various experts moved the goalposts for AGI. Now AI is routinely solving world class math problems unsolved for decades and it seems unremarkable
I spent much of the weekend talking with the team who did this work. Seb--and everyone else--acted with integrity and generosity throughout. Initially we believed the other team had also solved the problem. We wanted to collaborate and do a joint release. When we learned that they had Euler but not Navier-Stokes, we offered to let them go first, to suggest that they should be the ones to get the prize, and optionally for Tristan to be the lead author on a rewrite of the OpenAI proof. We felt it was challenging to offer the same to Levent (an Anthropic employee), who was not willing to talk or coordinate with us anyway. We were open to other solutions. We would have greatly preferred coordination. We did not rush to publish even though the other team wasn't communicating with us. The team threatened us with unfounded accusations of plagarism. Now that we can see their work, the approaches appear to be different. It is also worth noting that our latest model can solve many, many other math problems. It is true that we tried this because there were rumors on the internet last week that Anthropic's models had solved a millennium problem and we were curious if ours could do it too.

Great post by @DariusDale42 TBH trying to analyze the macro environment is exhausting. Lots of variation and routes to the final destination, but ultimately, it appears nothing stops this train. @LynAldenContact
CONFUSED?: The stock, bond, currency, commodity, and crypto markets will all make a lot more sense to you once you stop myopically focusing on "liquidity" and start studying economic history. Here's a shortcut for those among you who've been lulled to sleep by nearly two decades of v-bottoming markets and think they can "TLDR" their way to financial freedom from here:

What we are seeing is the return of geopolitics as an explanation for everything. There is no separate economic and national security policy anymore. I don’t think the next administration whether Democrat or Republican is going to undo this new stance.
🚨 BREAKING: Scott Bessent just sent shivers down the spine of Iranian regime leaders. What a bad*ss... "I will say it on worldwide TV: we KNOW WHERE in the British Virgin Islands your accounts are, at these trust companies. We know the hundred million dollar houses you have around the world. WE ARE GOING TO CLOSE ALL THAT DOWN." 🔥🔥🔥 "We are going after the regime's assets they have stolen from the Iranian people." "They can go to the victims of terror." "After 47 years — IT IS OVER." "Either you are with us, or against us."
