Today, we join the global health community in mourning the passing of Paulo Roberto Teixeira, a pioneering public health leader, tireless advocate for human rights and universal access to treatment, and a founding board member of the Medicines Patent Pool.
A central figure in
#Brazil's response to HIV/AIDS, Paulo helped shape some of the principles that continue to guide the global fight against HIV today: the right to health, community engagement, access to prevention and treatment, and the conviction that scientific advances must reach everyone, regardless of where they live. He later brought this vision to the global stage through his work with
@WHO and other international initiatives to expand access to antiretroviral therapy.
MPP benefited greatly from Paulo's wisdom, leadership and unwavering commitment to health equity from our earliest days. His belief that access to medicines is a matter of dignity and social justice remains at the heart of our mission.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the many people around the world whose lives were touched by his work.
His legacy will continue to inspire the fight for equitable access to health technologies for all.
