🌲🍃 What an unbeLEAFable time joining Forestry, Agriculture and Lands NL, the City of St. John’s, and @TreeCanada in celebrating 16 years of National Tree Day. 😊 A special thank you to Krista Langthorne, Director - Customer Experience, who spoke on our shared commitment to supporting safe, sustainable and vibrant communities. ✅ Trees are wonderful additions to our neighbourhoods and please remember to plant safely. Ensure the tree you’re planting isn’t positioned to grow underneath power lines.

We hope everyone stayed safe during the high winds this weekend.  Our crews responded to multiple incidents of damage, including a cracked pole near Hare Bay (see photo). Many thanks to our teams who worked quickly and safely to restore power, and to our customers for their reports to us and patience as we responded. We’re continuing to monitor conditions and hope today is a little calmer for everyone on the weather front!

Kellee joined Newfoundland Power in August 2021, beginning her career in the Electrical Maintenance department before taking on new opportunities in her current role as a Meter Technician at the Corner Brook office. What inspired Kellee to join Newfoundland Power was the company's commitment to giving back to communities, especially its support for cancer care. Having seen firsthand the impact a cancer diagnosis can have on families, and now supporting her own mother through that journey, that commitment carries even greater meaning. Kellee's biggest supporter has always been her mom. She never questioned whether her daughter belonged in the trades and always believed she could succeed. That confidence helped Kellee believe in herself and continues to inspire her today. "She always believed I could become a journeyperson electrician and never let gender norms limit what she thought I could achieve," Kellee says. "Her encouragement helped me believe in myself, even when others questioned it." A recent visit to Burgeo Academy for a career fair brought everything full circle. Returning to the school she attended from kindergarten to Grade 12, Kellee had the chance to speak with students who may be wondering about their own future paths, just as she once did. Becoming a journeyperson electrician has allowed Kellee to share her story and demonstrate that young women can thrive in the trades. She credits Newfoundland Power’s supportive and inclusive culture for helping make that journey possible and says it is one of the most fulfilling aspects of her work. Safety is a value that guides Kellee every day. Working around electricity requires focus, respect, and constant attention. For her, the most important part of any workday is making sure everyone gets home safely to the people who matter most. Outside of work, Kellee enjoys spending time with her family, friends, partner, and dogs. She is passionate about the outdoors and is committed to giving back to her community as a volunteer firefighter. Kellee is the power in our story. #PowerInEveryStory Explore other Power in Every Story features on our website at: newfoundlandpower.com/News/P…
