Toronto has already made a massive number of changes this offseason, bringing in Sergei Bobrovsky, Darren Raddysh, and Gavin McKenna, among others, while also hiring John Chayka as GM and Jim Hiller as head coach.
And yet, sources say the Leafs’ work is apparently still not finished.
Toronto is reportedly continuing its search for a big, powerful forward who can complement Auston Matthews and provide the type of two-way, physical game the team believes its top line needs.
Matthew Knies had a three-point season debut, scoring twice and adding an assist in a 6-3 win over Buffalo.
Naturally, this caught the Leafs’ attention.
Sources tell
@nhlhumor that Toronto believes Marchenko could potentially be used as trade bait to acquire a player of the exact calibre they’re looking for.
