Building the future of human skin health

Advanced Science published a peer-reviewed study demonstrating the capabilities of Yuna, our ex vivo human-skin platform that keeps full-thickness skin alive and measurable for over four weeks, with its native architecture and immune function intact. Yuna was built around a simple problem: much of the biology that determines how human skin ages, responds to stress, and reacts to treatment unfolds over weeks, while standard ex vivo skin models typically remain viable for only days. The paper shows Yuna maintaining full-thickness human skin over that window and capturing complex biological processes, including chronic inflammation, cellular senescence, and the skin’s response to UVB exposure. Better AI for biology requires better biological data. Our CEO @michaelpolansky spoke with @BusinessInsider about how we built Yuna to generate high-quality, longitudinal data from living human skin. By keeping full-thickness human skin viable and observable for four weeks, Yuna allows us to capture how complex biology unfolds over time. That data trains predictive AI models that help us identify what to test next, with every experiment sharpening the next prediction. businessinsider.com/lady-gag…

Today we're introducing Yuna, our platform for discovering skin bioactives. Yuna keeps living, full-thickness human skin viable and observable for four weeks, with native tissue architecture preserved. That duration matters a lot more than it sounds. Key biological processes such as collagen remodeling, barrier restoration and tissue repair, sustained inflammation, and cumulative damage can take longer than a week to fully play out, meaning shorter studies may capture only part of these processes or how interventions behave in human skin over time. Yuna widens the window, and pairs it with machine learning trained on our own tissue data rather than public datasets. Every experiment sharpens the next prediction. Our preprint is now on bioRxiv. It shows Yuna sustaining three distinct skin biologies across four weeks (psoriasis-like inflammation, senescence in aged donor tissue, and UVB stress response) and returning the known answer in each case when challenged with an established intervention. We partner with select biotech, pharma, beauty and personal care companies who need human-relevant skin data. If that's you, we'd like to hear from you.
