For those not aware, NASA certified the Cybertruck as an Astronaut Emergency Egress Vehicle, allowing SpaceX to replace their aging MRAPs. If something goes wrong on the pad, the crew needs to get as far away as possible, as quickly as possible, and Cybertruck provides that speed and protection. A NASA spokesperson said that both the agency and SpaceX "assessed the capability of the vehicle for all situations that would be encountered in an emergency and found that the Cybertruck met NASA’s requirements."

The Cybertrucks are parked ~350ft from Falcon 9 and Dragon. That black pad behind them is the soft landing area for the emergency egress slides, which deploy from the side of the launch tower. The astronauts would jump down these slides and be able to immediately ingress Cybertruck and go. No waiting for an engine to start. Instant acceleration.

Having personally driven both of these extensively, they aren’t even in the same league. Cybertruck is so much better suited for the job. It takes a ton of effort and time just to get inside the mrap.

Not to mention you can get 4 for the price of one mrap 😵‍💫

How do you "ingress" a cybertruck, while wearing a spacesuit?!? MRAP: * Giant backdoor * mine resistant, can take a beating * can protect passengers from shrapnel, fire and fragments. Cybertruck: * Fast * ???

They open the door and sit inside, which is a whole lot easier than in the MRAP where they either have to crawl over the gunner platform to get to the driver seat or climb up the side and through the tiny door.

They’re priced at 84k? Why do all of the trucks near me rise north of 120k 😒

...They picked the hardest vehicle on earth to open the doors on? The one with no handles, just a button that's not even labelled?

You aren't going to go 0-60 in 4.1 seconds on the bloody moon!

By the time you figure out how to open the damn door, it’s all over. NASA should ask Tesla to modify the door handle. Who wouldn’t like an escape vehicle which is fast, reliable and cheap!

What's this in Las Vegas from last year? Are we sure it's good ingress vehicle?

Let's hope they never take it to carwash or crack the aluminum frame.

Why not a Bearcat? They can do 0-60 in 8-10 seconds and are still armored.

They need to redo the rear end of the vehicle on the cyber truck. The rear bumper does not allow for proper clearance when climbing a hill. Some angles might be too sharp for it. and not enough lift and suspension to clear it

Literally I have been saying this.... The Cyber Truck needs to have an XL edition... Maybe a Cyber Truck Dually, with 8 wheels in the back and 2 in front. .. and these are used for the Space X Launch Pads, Space X Factories, Space X Rocket Factory, Tesla Factory and Tesla Mines,

For those not aware: this was a desperate attempt by Elon to pad cybertruck sales numbers. Cybertruck sales are embarrassingly low before you consider that 20% of them were bought by Elon himself (via SpaceX)

i'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about, because there is real technical reasons why the vehicle on the top looks like that and not like a cybertruck (and dont even get me started on the price)

the eva suit fit question is the real one nobody wants to admit. those suits are bulky as hell and the cybertruck doors arent exactly astronaut friendly
