The need for affordable housing is evident in every part of NW Oregon. I've worked with Bienestar--an organization that is thoughtfully and intentionally building housing with needed support for Oregonians--and I was honored to receive Bienestar's Campeón Comunitario Award!

We had a great visit at Portland Syrups, a thriving, growing business in Portland’s Central Eastside. Trump’s reckless tariffs and trade wars make things chaotic and expensive for businesses that export and import. I spoke with the company’s team to learn more about what they do and how policies affect local businesses.

The Trump administration now has immigration courts across the country, including in Portland, OR and Tacoma, WA, holding expedited “mega master” hearings with hundreds of cases heard in a single day. I joined with members of Oregon's delegation to demand that the administration end this harmful fast-track practice and provide due process for ALL, free from political influence.

For the past 50 years, the Hyde Amendment has banned the use of federal funds for abortion care. Now is the time to end Hyde and let decisions be made by patients and providers, not politicians.

It was great to connect with @Oregon_AFSCME members, who do important work in behavioral health, state government, and more. It was important to hear how federal funding cuts, including Medicaid cuts and loss of federal workforce, are harming the public. Thank you for fighting for safe workplaces and for advocating for workers to have a voice on the job.

Donald Trump and Linda McMahon are now excluding LGBTQI+ students from Title IX protections. This is cruel and dangerous. Our education system should be about giving all students the skills and opportunities they need to grow and thrive while keeping them safe, including safe from harassment and discrimination. This administration's continued attacks on LGBTQI+ youth are harmful and mean. I am working diligently with my colleagues to reinstate Title IX protections for all students.

Here he goes again. Donald Trump is trying to cancel funding Congress approved, including millions of dollars for migrant students and international education programs. That's illegal. Our Constitution has separation of powers for a reason, and funding decisions are made by Congress, not a President and certainly not a presdient as corrupt as this one. I will do everything I can to fight these devastating cuts.

This grant funding is long overdue for Columbia Memorial Hospital and everyone who lives on or visits the Oregon Coast. The BRIC grant for this lifesaving vertical evacuation structure should never have been jeopardized, and we’ve fought long and hard for it to be released. I look forward to celebrating the completion of this important project with the community in Astoria.

Some Oregonians have up to seen 5x increases on their student loan repayment plans. Oregonians deserve better than to struggle through massive student debt loans. Republicans have made it harder for people to pay off loans since their Big Ugly Bill took effect.

I had a great time back at the @AdelanteMujeres Farmers Market in Forest Grove! 🥕 This market is part of the community and it was a joy - and delicious - to connect with local farmers and vendors.

I chose to focus on a real problem: the SAVE plan is ending, and more than 7 million student loan borrowers may be affected. Students who still have remaining balances will see their rates increase up to five times what they were paying under the SAVE plan. This is unacceptable.

Scientists need to be able to conduct research without political interference. Trump's policy to defund and restrict emerging bioscience leaves us less prepared to confront the next public health crisis and is driving researchers to other countries.

When a tsunami hits, every second matters when evacuating to higher ground. Advances in data modeling can improve evacuation routes, provide more warning time, and help design the buildings coastal Oregon needs to save lives.

Public schools are facing increased challenges across the country. From tighter budgets to learning setbacks, Congress needs to act to support students, teachers, & families. That’s why I’m supporting legislation to make historic investments in K-12 education to ensure our kids have a brighter future.
My Transforming Education for the Future Act will open doors of opportunity, support students and teachers, and foster a well-rounded public education system.
