The main ICI property is held by the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) as a waqf. NAIT is not some random real-estate company. That matters because the waqf model is about permanence: preserve the asset and use its proceeds to support designated institutions over the long term. A 2026 lawsuit alleges that a woman cleaning the Islamic School of Irving on September 27, 2024, was raped by a 14-year-old former student — and that personnel failed to call police after she reported it. The petition says the juvenile later pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault and received 25 years. Those juvenile records are sealed. The civil allegations against the defendants remain pending.
