When this party ends, it's going to be ugly. I bought one month of chatgpt pro for $200 and I got 4 resets and also 62,500 in future credits ($2,500 retail value). I used every weekly allowance, and burned through four additional weekly resets. I used around 24 billion tokens, almost all of it on frontier models. Estimated retail value $20,000 to $25,000. Assuming a 75% margin on inference, that puts my costs around $5,000 to $6,250 on revenue of $200. Add in the $2,500 credit and thats another $625 in inference costs on a $200 plan (since cancelled). I cost @OpenAI 25x revenue ($200). Heres to hoping the open source world can distill the frontier fast enough so that it runs on our own local, reasonably spec'd hardware, faster than the ladder can be pulled up. Once that VC cash is burned, it's going to look a lot like Uber.
