Yesterday, I visited the site of the collapsed building on Peter Odili Road. It was indeed an unfortunate incident that could have been avoided. As rescue operations are ongoing, I have ordered the immediate closure of the site pending proper investigations. I understand that several efforts by the State regulatory authority to monitor the project to ensure conformity with standards were waved off. Our concerns were never about interference, but about safeguarding lives and ensuring adherence to construction regulations and standards. We are deeply touched by the loss of human lives, as such misfortune should not have occured in modern times when professional standards and safety measures are expected to guide construction activities. However, I commiserate with the families of the deceased and sympathise with those injured. I believe that the government will keep doing its best to mitigate future occurrences.

MESSAGE OF PEACE, TOLERANCE & PROGRESS TO RIVERS PEOPLE Fellow Citizens of Rivers State, I warmly join you in celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. On this sacred day, we honour the Prince of Peace, whose life remains the eternal model of love, humility, sacrifice and compassion. I congratulate each and every one of you for witnessing this beautiful season of hope, renewal, and thanksgiving. Christmas stands as a profound expression of God’s boundless love and His gift of peace to humanity. As a government, our constant priority is to add meaningful value to the lives of our people and this investment in robust road infrastructure clearly fulfills that commitment by expanding connectivity and completing vital links around Ogbakiri and the neighbouring communities. To everything under the sun, there is a time and season and I am happy today that I formally obtained the membership card of the APC. This primarily, is to align our dear state with the ruling party at the centre, with a firm belief in Mr President and the Renewed Hope Agenda to rapidly contribute to the growth, stability and development of Rivers State. It was under this atmosphere of freshness and vigour that my team and I received the Minister of Aviation, Chief Festus Keyamo SAN, for the official commissioning of the over 12.2km Airport–Igwuruta Road, which adds aesthetics and economic potentials to the Port Harcourt Airport. With the fruitful synergy already secured with the Federal Government, we also flagged off the construction of the 7.1km Ipo–Igwuruta bypass for smooth access into the host communities, as well as providing robust business opportunities for the populace.

Today, we fulfilled another promise; the commissioning of the 28.4km extension of the dualised Ahoada–Omoku Road. Despite challenges, our focus remains clear: to deliver the dividends of democracy to every community in Rivers State. We are moving forward in peace, with reenergized strength and a clear commitment to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda across all Local Government Areas. Together, we will continue to build a Rivers State that works for everyone.
