Elon’s advice to 20-year-olds on surviving the AI era: Get as broad-based an education as possible: arts, sciences, engineering, and wide general knowledge. Why? AI and robots will fulfill almost any request immediately. The edge won’t be doing the work. It will be knowing what to ask for. The broader your knowledge, the better your questions. (source: CGTN)

I thought Germany and German bureaucracy cannot shock me anymore, but it did. I parked my TESLA (!) on an EV-only parking spot in @Konstanz and plugged it into an EV charger. Came back to this fine. Had to use Grok to even understand what was wrong. Turns out you need to have a special EV licence or an EV sticker to indicate it is a real EV. Guess the Tesla logo and charging cable was not enough. @levelsio @ffaebi @eurofounder

Something’s not working at all in #Sony lately.
As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project. PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner. In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured that development of PHYSINT, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.

Not the first time an “insider” warns of the dangers of AI. People forget that humans have already built weapons that could end humanity with the push of a button. Fear-mongering and critical thinking are two totally different things
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

How empires fall
ispanyollar dünyanın yarısını yönettiler, nasıl oldu da ing ve fransanın gerisine düştüler diye sormak çok haklı bi soru 1787 yılında, abdulhamitin madride gönderdiği ilk resmi osmanlı elçisi ahmet vasıf efendinin İspanya sefaretnamesini okumak gerekir bunu anlamak için, çünkü dönemi bizim dilimizde, bizim dünyamızda anlatan bi insan. vasıf efendi, dışarıdan bakıldığında ihtişamlı görünen bu imparatorluğun içten içe nasıl çürüdüğünü bizzat yerinde görmüş ve adeta bi iktisatçı gibi satır satır teşhis etmiştir vasıf efendi, amerikadan gemilerle gelen külçe külçe altın ve gümüşün ispanyol ekonomisini nasıl tembelleştirdiğini açıkça anlatır. ispanyolların kendi memleketlerinde fabrika açmak, zanaat geliştirmek yerine ihtiyaç duydukları her şeyi ingiltere ve fransadan hazır satın aldıklarını yazar. yani sömürgelerden gelen o devasa servet ispanyada kalıcı bir sanayi yaratmamış, yalnızca rakiplerinin sanayi devrimini finanse eden bi nakit akışına dönüşmüştür hatta o kadar çok altın gelmiş ki avrupada altın enflasyonu olmuştur sefaretnamede dikkat çeken en vurucu gözlemlerden biri halkın ve soyluların iş ahlakıdır :D vasıf efendi, sokaklarda cebinde tek kuruşu olmayan ama asilzade olduğu için ticaret yapmayı, tezgah başına geçmeyi ya da fiziki çalışmayı onuruna yediremeyen binlerce insan olduğunu aktarır. hatta halkın tembel ve miskin olduğunu yazmıştır. üretim ve zanaat aşağılık bir meşgale görüldüğü için ekonomi tamamen dışa bağımlı hale gelmiştir vasıf efendi granada sokaklarını gezerken hayran kaldığı sulama kanallarını, tarım arazilerini ve şehir mimarisini uzun uzun anlatır, ama sonra acı bi gerçeği vurgular, bu toprakların asıl üretici gücü, zanaatkarı ve mühendisi olan müslümanlar ve yahudiler zorla sürgün edilmiştir. nşitelikli insan sermayesi ülkeden temizlenince geriye işlenmeyen verimli topraklar ve atıl kalmış bir ekonomi kalmıştır ülkedeki kiliselerin, manastırların ve ruhban sınıfının büyüklüğüne değinen vasıf, hiçbir şey üretmeyip sadece hazineden ve halktan beslenen devasa bir kitlenin varlığına dikkat çeker. en zengin toprakların ve sermayenin bu kurumlarda bloke edilmesi, üretim sermayesini tamamen kilitlemiştir. hatta hatıratlarından hatırladığım en komik ve vahim olaylardan biri, yine vasıf efendinin anılarında asıl şok yaşadığı kraliyet olayı da budur, padişahın kral üçüncü carlos için gönderdiği resmi hediyeleri teslim ettikten sonra kraliyet ailesinin diğer üyelerinin özellikle veliaht prens veliahtın eşi maria luisa ve kralın diğer çocuklarının "Padişah bize niye ayrı hediye göndermedi?" diyerek açıkça tavır koyup elçilik heyetinden yüzsüzce pay talep etmesidir. osmanlı protokolünde devletlerarası hediyeler yalnızca hükümdara takdim edilirken, ispanyol saray hanedanının sanki sıradan bi miras kavgası verir gibi padişahın krala getirdiği samur kürkleri, kıymetli kumaşları ve mücevherleri aralarında paylaşmaya kalkışması, yetmeyip vasıf efendinin kendi yanında getirdiği şahsi eşya ve paraları da kraliyet üyelerine dağıtmak zorunda bırakılması karşısında sefir çileden çıkmış ve koca bir hanedanın yabancı bir elçinin hediyelerine böylesine arsızca tamah etmesini sarayın ahlaki sefaleti ve tükenmişliği olarak not düşmüştür. pasifikten atlantike kadar uzanan o haritayı savunmanın bedelini, ispanyanın tersanelerini ve askeri yapısını incelerken, bu kadar geniş bi coğrafyada kale ve donanma tutmanın getirdiği muazzam lojistik masrafların sömürgelerden gelen parayı misliyle eritip tükettiğini anılarında söyler, madrid sarayını mimari olarak son derece haşmetli ve debdebeli bulsa da, içerideki kraliyet ailesi ve görevlilerin yabancı bir elçinin hediyelerine bile göz dikecek kadar asalak, dedikoducu, kuralcı ve ahlaken çürümüş bi dünya içinde yaşadığını anlatırç. sokakları ise taş döşemelerine rağmen pis kokuların sindiği, çöplerin saçıldığı ve asıl mesleği olmayan, pelerinlerine sarınıp köşe başlarında aylaklık yapan gururlu ama sefil hidalgo kalabalıklarıyla dolu tekinsiz bi çelişkiler şehri olarak tasvir eder okumak isteyenler için çok eğlenceli bi hatırat: researchgate.net/publication…

Marriage used to be the starting point. Two people would come together with almost nothing to their name, but each other, and then they would build everything side by side. This process of building led to bonding, it built loyalty, it required tremendous sacrifice and most of all it taught interdependence. But now we are told the opposite. We are told instead that we need to have it all before we marry. We need a good career, a home, a bunch of money in the bank, your entire identity discovered and solidified, a passport filled with stamps, a degree and much dating experience. The problem with this is that by the time two people finally decide to join one another, well they have spent most of their lives learning how to do life alone. So it is not wonder then that building a life with someone else, suddenly feels so much harder. Marriage used to be a beginning, not it is an after thought to an already built life. Two already self-sufficient and self-reliant people do not easily merge and mesh. It is hard to go from the perspective of “mine”, to “ours”, when individualism is all we have ever known. And this is why individualism has become the death of marriage.

I’m a physics teacher, and quite a few stories have stayed with me throughout my career. In my class, there’s an unwritten rule: For every final research project, students must submit a lab notebook recording all raw measurement data. Missing data or fabricated results mean an automatic F, in science there’s simply no room for dishonesty. At the end of the term that year, a girl came to turn in her reversible pendulum project which was meant to measure the acceleration due to gravity. The data in her notebook was all over the place, and her graph was wildly off from the theoretical value of 9.8 m/s². "My results are... completely ruined," she said. "Everyone else got nice numbers close to 9.8. I guess I'm getting an F". I looked at her densely packed notebook, filled with meticulous notes: measurements taken at 2:00 AM, the humidity in her bedroom, even the exact times the string snapped and had to be retied. Having taught for over a decade, I can easily tell who fakes their numbers to match the textbook and who stays up all night putting in the real work. "Why didn't you just tweak the numbers a bit to get closer to 9.8, like the others?" I asked. She looked up, her eyes rimmed with red, but her voice was steady: "Because the data is what it is. You taught us that a scientist never lies about their data." I silently flipped to the next page and marked a big red A. She was stunned. "Wait... but my experiment completely failed?" "Your experiment didn't fail. It just proved that your pendulum had air drag and a wobbly pivot" I said. "Science isn't about manufactured perfection, it's about the pursuit of truth. You stood up for the truth, and that's the true mark of a researcher." Starting that semester, I created a small award in the corner of the lab: "The Best Failed Lab Report", given to the experiment with the most skewed results, but the most honest logs and thorough error analysis. I want these kids to understand that having the courage to acknowledge mistakes and confront reality matters far more than faking a perfect score just to please someone else.

Respect
On July 2, 1982, a 33-year-old truck driver named Larry Walters tied 42 helium weather balloons to a Sears lawn chair, strapped on a parachute, packed a BB gun, sandwiches, and a six-pack… and cut the rope. He expected to float a few hundred feet over his San Pedro backyard. Instead he shot up like a rocket to 16,000 feet — straight into the main approach path for LAX. Two airline pilots radioed the tower: they had just passed a man in a lawn chair holding a gun at 16,000 feet. For 45 minutes he floated over Los Angeles, freezing, too scared to shoot more balloons. Finally he started popping them one by one and came down tangled in power lines in Long Beach, blacking out part of the neighborhood. When police asked why he did it, he said: “A man can’t just sit around.” FAA fined him $4,000. America turned him into a folk hero — Lawnchair Larry. True story.

Very interesting read that can help everyone a lot
