James Cleverly was part of the most anti-London government in living memory. He sat around the cabinet table and denied London’s councils the funding they needed. I reconnected funding with deprivation and now our Labour government is investing record amounts in the capital.
Great to welcome Sir @JamesCleverly to Croydon to discuss investment, safer streets and our borough’s huge potential. From new shops on Allders Parade to historic Surrey Street, there’s plenty to be proud of. Croydon is getting back on track, with more to do.

London needs Europe, and Europe needs London. We all benefit from a closer relationship.
Andy Burnham is right that ‘hope comes from honesty’. That’s why Labour must make the case for rejoining the EU ⬇️ theguardian.com/commentisfre…

I’m extremely disappointed that the council has agreed to let the Admiral Casino on Westow Hill open 24 hours a day. They’ve got it wrong.

Delighted the Government is going ahead with the regional water boards I first agreed to set up in July 2025 when I was Defra Secretary. theguardian.com/business/202…
Exclusive: Mayors are to be given powers to control water companies under Andy Burnham’s plans to increase state control of utilities. The Prime Minister is planning to announce nine new regional bodies to oversee water firms, with local political leaders sitting on them alongside public health and environmental officials and customers. The policy, likely to be announced as a central part of Burnham’s “10-year plan” later this year, will be his first attempt to define his plan for “public control” of water and energy firms. It is borrowed from the Cunliffe review of the water sector earlier this year, which first recommended regional boards. The idea was not taken up by the Starmer administration. The plan would see a new layer of regional water bureaucracy, with a significant role for local mayors, set the objectives of water companies, collate public feedback and hold bosses to account. It follows months of investor uncertainty, after Burnham said in June he would support full nationalisation in some cases. Since then, the cost of debt for British water companies has soared and bosses have been left unsure whether they can legally be taken over in a state buyout.

My words, in Parliament, on March 25th 2026. We announced these changes six months ago to protect British democracy from dark foreign money – before anybody knew about these latest donations. The law was clear, accessible and known to Reform in advance. Maybe Farage should attend Parliament and pay attention.

Reform has a £72 million question to answer. Donations from overseas voters are capped because we can’t check if the money is from a hostile foreign state. So when did Reform’s two mega-donors move back to Britain? If these donations break the rules, Reform must return the money.

Last March, I announced a total ban on donations from crypto trading because we can’t tell if the money originates from hostile states, and a ban on donors not resident in the UK until they’ve been back a year. Reform have questions to answer. politicshome.com/news/articl…

Devolution and government funding must be fair to London. Listen to my interview with Times Radio below.
Former Labour housing secretary Steve Reed says that Andy Burnham must be “very, very careful” about devolution and make sure that “allocations of funds is done fairly and that includes being fair to London”. "People have misunderstood Manchesterism in London to mean that they fear Manchester will be prioritised over London.” @CalumAM | @SteveReedMP

Sagal was brought up in Camden and has earned the right to stand for her community through her hard work and talent. Judging her by where she was born rather than all she’s done for her borough is prejudiced, racist and wrong and goes against all London stands for.
The front runner being foisted on the people of Holborn by Labour to replace the former Prime Minister Keir Starmer in our Parliament was born in Somalia. Do you understand what’s happening?

Keir leaves an incredible legacy. Taking Labour into government by a landslide just 5 years after our worst ever election result. He leaves Parliament now with his head held high and the country in a better state than he found it. Thank you Keir and good luck for what comes next.
