This one flows a lot better I think, a lot of fun.
This week, @ThatchEffendi returns to our palace to regale us with yet more tales about the murky historical roots of the Iliad and the Odyssey. Come for the hecatomb, stay for the exploration of the Near Eastern origin of many Greek gods! open.spotify.com/episode/0k9…

I post "Fury Road is the Bronze Age" so much that it's basically a bit now but I think the actually coolest bit of world building that feels very Late Bronze Age Collapse is Immotan Joe's medals. Joe is old enough that no one in the citadel even *is capable of understanding what any of those medals mean.* They are fragments of the conflicts that destroyed the world and he's still proud of them. It's a way cooler, more efficient bit of world building than the line in Nolan's Odyssey about how their children will have to sing the histories because writing will be gone. Miller did that in about 2-3 seconds of visual storytelling.

Paris might be worth a mass but God knows Columbus isn't.
Vivek Ramaswamy says he’s not Christian but adds he went to Catholic school, reads the Bible, and shares the same Judeo-Christian values this country was founded on. He’s as MAGA as the rest of us, and Trump is heading to Ohio soon to campaign for him.

Caring about gender like this at a time of institutional collapse is about as decedent as a Byzantine historian who regarded a usurper emperor who destroyed the economy and lost 70% of the country as a good boy because he tried to write poetry. It's decedent end of empire shit. Yapping about root races and race mysticism and theosophy in Vienna in 1913. It's rot.
You think the right lost the culture war? Really? You think a majority of people believe in pregnant men?

I finished my reading list on Hittite religion and I'm done with the part of what I'm writing that's on Hittite religion and all I want to do is find more excuses to read more about Hittite religion.

I'm not the first person to say this but the right has totally lost the culture in part because they took over twitter and the incentives pushed towards posts like this.
The Cornell 7 should go to jail for coming in that 💀

The vibes are truly catastrophic, to the point where MAGA accounts have just given up and are now posting random slop
Everybody remember stick races? No iPhones. No apps. Just rainwater, a curb, and two grown men yelling at sticks like it’s NASCAR.

People often associate the Pylos Combat Agate, a seal on an agate with a genuinely insanely detailed depiction of combat, with the events of The Iliad, which makes a kind of intuitive sense and gets the vibe but it's from multilpe centuries before the period Homer covers so it's literally the Perry Bible Fellowship comic.

Americans who have lived in Britain or are otherwise conversant in our style of understatement will appreciate what Carlson doesn’t, which is that he’s being brutally reesmogged in this exchange:
🚨🚨 Tucker Carlson insists three times that Hitler "did not want to go to war with the UK," and twice demands that Jacob Rees-Mogg "acknowledge" it. Hitler "didn't want war" with Britain the way a mugger doesn't want a fight with his victim. He wanted Britain to stand aside while he took Europe. Britain publicly guaranteed Poland's independence in March 1939. Hitler invaded Poland anyway. Rees-Mogg: "I'm very surprised you're verging on defending Hitler." Carlson sarcastically remarks that he is a secret Nazi, then clarifies that he is neither a secret Nazi nor a public Nazi.

Right-wingers in my replies asking me what I think good art is, and I'll something that's topical - The Fire of Sosruko mosaic at the Maykop Philharmonic in Adygea. Sosruko is the Circassian version of the Caucasian Nart hero who steals fire from the cyclops, the inyzh, to give it to the Narts, epic heroes. Prometheus in Greek myth is chained to one of the tallest mountains of the Caucasus, which and the similarities between these stories and the location of the Greek myth raises a lot of interesting questions. (image credit @caucasusvisuals )
The statue of Prometheus is finally finished. It was cast in Paris, crossed the Atlantic, and was assembled at Starbase. It took us 100 days to go from nothing to this. People of the West, we have lived through an era devoid of dreams, devoid of destiny. But the time has come to reclaim our dream of antiquity. In a few months, we will start building a new city. It will be the most magnificent city in all of history. After all, the great dream of the West has always been to rebuild Rome. Come walk beside us in this endeavor. The world is waiting.
