Tampa Bay's Congresswoman⚡️🌴 🇺🇸 Fighting for A More Affordable America! 🇺🇸

Tampa / St. Petersburg
Life already costs too much. You shouldn’t worry that corruption, fraud, and corporate wrongdoing will make it worse. The FTC is key to keeping corporations accountable—that’s why I introduced the 21st Century FTC and FTC Autonomy Acts with @JanSchakowsky to strengthen its ability to act and restore civil penalties for first time offenses. I’m committed to restoring the FTC’s autonomy and authority, and I urge Congress to pass this important legislation.

Families need affordable health coverage, not more economic pain caused by ripping health care away. I led a resolution to ensure that a predatory rule change to kick 2 million Americans off their health care and send costs soaring does not go into effect. Today, the Senate is voting on its companion to ensure everyone can access health care—not just the wealthy and well-connected. I’m committed to making health care affordable and accessible, and I’ll work with anyone to get it done, regardless of their party or chamber. I urge my Senate colleagues to pass the resolution.

“Last year, investor-owned utilities made more $ off residents in Florida – more than $6 billion – than any other state despite having fewer customers and lower base rates than other places like CA and NY.” Read how extreme FL politicians allow this to happen 😒👇
Over the past several months, WUSF reporters researched what's behind rising electricity costs and what — if anything — can be done about them. Here's what they found: wusf.org/costofpower

Floridians are losing health coverage faster than anyone else in the country thanks to extreme politicians letting ACA tax credits expire. They’ve created a cost-of-living crisis and put health care out of reach for millions. Every week, I hear from my neighbors who have lost coverage or are being crushed by its high prices—I’m committed to ensuring that health care is affordable and accessible to all who need it. You shouldn’t have to choose between doctors visits and paying your electric bills.

Tomorrow, women of Congress from both parties take the field for the 18th annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game! 🥎 This year, I’m proud to be playing for my neighbor Nelcy Baltz. She’s a breast cancer survivor and a small business owner who started her own breast cancer nonprofit—a perfect representation of what our bipartisan game is all about. 💕💪🏼 #CWSG2026 @CWSoftballGame

I’m proud to have secured millions of federal dollars in storm recovery for my neighbors. The $709 million fund is currently accepting applications for Hillsborough County residents, supporting long-term investment in recovery and resilience for neighbors affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton. Extreme politicians are ending the Medicare Part D Premium Stabilization initiative early, raising prescription prices for seniors. Life is already expensive enough, and seniors shouldn’t have to choose between their life-saving medications and their groceries. This week, I introduced the Affordable Premiums for Seniors Act with Rep. Sewell to keep premiums down and provide greater certainty on health care costs for our seniors, who have worked hard for their earned Medicare benefits.

Today, the House PASSED my Ratepayer Protection Act! This bill ensures that Big Tech foots the bill for hyper scale data centers—not consumers. Electric bills are already sky-high, and my bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act is an important first step that can help lower costs for my neighbors and empower states to set additional, strict guardrails.

I led a FL Dem Delegation letter urging Speaker Johnson to reinstate the ACA's Enhanced Premium Tax Credit immediately. Over 150K constituents have already lost their healthcare. Congress should focus on lowering healthcare costs. Instead, the Speaker is sending us home AGAIN.

Today, we launch the Thriving Economy Project! As Chair of the project, I’ve worked alongside incredible members and policy experts to develop an innovative action plan to guide thoughtful economic development and prepare us for the future. 🌎 The project contains policies to lower costs, support sustainable growth and build safer communities. The chapter on Thriving, Affordable, and Resilient Communities is particularly personal to me as Tampa Bay’s Congresswoman. I’m proud to lead it and excited for you to see what we’ve been working on. @SEEC View the project here: buff.ly/4u4lity

Fossil-fueled power plants are expensive, dirty, and make our communities sicker. The EPA’s rollback of life-saving pollution limits is a dangerous, corrupt decision that gives handouts to Big Oil and Gas and does nothing to lower your costs. A healthy and affordable future for our communities depends on holding polluters accountable and building cheaper, cleaner, more reliable energy—not prolonging the lives of outdated power plants.
BREAKING: The EPA is eliminating a rule that limits planet-warming pollution from coal and gas-fired power plants. apnews.com/article/epa-power…

Representative Kathy Castor calls for an inspector general investigation into Hope Florida.
Corruption costs you, and accountability matters. I’m calling on the Office of the Inspector General to launch a formal investigation into the diversion of Medicaid settlement funds to political activities through the Hope Florida Foundation facade. I sent a letter demanding an investigation in May 2025. Now, a grand jury has confirmed that $8.5 million of taxpayer funds were illegally funneled into partisan politics. That’s not right—it’s time for accountability for a change. This month, I sent another letter demanding an investigation to determine who’s responsible. You deserve to know who illegally diverted your hard-earned dollars for political gain. I won’t stop until there is accountability.

Electric bills are already soul-crushing. Families shouldn’t be forced to pay even more to cover the massive energy demands of billion-dollar data center corporations. This week, the House will vote on my bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act to ensure Big Tech pays its bills—not Florida ratepayers. I’m thrilled we’re one step closer to getting this across the finish line and protecting consumers from unfair rate hikes.
