Build up, not out. 🌆

Austin, TX
90% of these folks would choose a direct rail connection downtown
If you’re flying into Austin tonight, you’re probably looking at a 1-hour or longer wait for an Uber.

we’ll know we’re srs about affordability when this is legal to build on land currently reserved for $800k+ homes
We’ve been channeling a bit of retro futurism with these #singlestair prototypes. There was a lot of great urbanism at the start of the 1900s (before cars took over) and a lot of that same approach can work well with modern passive house design & low embodied carbon materials.

Rosedale passed Council 10–1! 🙌 Now AISD needs the court to clear a ~century-old deed restriction. Two Travis County judges have been all too willing to side with those working to stop housing 🤦🏽 we’ll see…
435 new homes in the heart of Austin + a huge cash windfall for AISD. And, of course, there’s a valid petition opposing it. 🙃 NIMBYism remains one of the greatest threats to housing affordability. This should be a no-brainer. 🗳️

6200 Menchaca. When ‘community engagement’ misses 99.99% of the community and mostly attracts people opposed to change, predictable results ensue :-/

Thankful Texas passed HB 24 last session. For too long, a small number of nearby landowners could force a 75% City Council vote to approve new housing. For qualifying residential rezonings, that’s no longer the case. A simple majority can move housing forward. 👏

TxDOT’s Broadway decision in San Antonio tells you a lot about how they think: wider sidewalks and protected bike lanes lost because they would take a lane from cars. Different project, same philosophy: when people and cars compete for space, TxDOT chooses cars. expressnews.com/news/article…
