Our greatest challenge in AI deployment will be energy. At least until we have a lot of space deployment. However, I'm convinced we will see more new energy than I can imagine. I don't know where, but new generation keeps popping up daily.
Introducing NetworkOcean. Our future is bottlenecked by the speed at which we can deploy power. We’re building floating solar arrays powering data centers at sea. This will soon be the fastest way to deploy new compute, skipping years of land, grid connections, and traditional infrastructure delays. Our 2030 target is 1 GW/week. @network_ocean_

I wasn't strong enough in my opinion that data centers won't raise electricity costs. Turns out that data centers LOWER electric bills.
A data center can lower your electricity bill. a16z's Alex Immerman, David George, and Sarah Wang on the myth that gets the least pushback and deserves the most: "It may seem counterintuitive, but a data center can help lower your electricity rate. A recent US study showed that for every 10% increase in data center capacity, residential rates went down by 40 bps." "You should think about it as a power grid is a shared fixed cost base: poles, wires, substations. A large stable customer, like a data center, can help spread those costs across more units of electricity. Simply put, more demand across a shared system is a positive." "Investment in shared infrastructure can also improve the economics for the households and businesses connected to it." "I don't think that point gets enough media attention. Dina Powell went on a podcast recently from Meta and talked about the Louisiana site that they did, where they worked with the community to lower electricity costs. There's real examples of that today. It's not just lip service." @aleximm @DavidGeorge83 @sarahdingwang

The video above explains this, but you'll want to see all the slides in the @a16z video link. Here's the chart that taught me.. Just on of a dozen plus.

Nvidia’s OpenShell announcement is a reminder that agent safety is an engineering problem. Recent breakouts weren’t proof that development must stop. They were proof that the sandbox was too weak. The runtime environment was poorly designed and misconfigured. The right response is open runtime isolation, control of the path to the model, out-of-band hardware enforcement, and a faster pace of safety work with the frontier labs. As the technical blog puts it: “We believe we need to increase the pace of AI safety research and engineering in collaboration with frontier labs and the broader community.” That’s how you earn trust. Not by virtue-signaling a pause, and not by acting like no solution exists.
Today, with over 100 industry partners, we introduced the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, bringing together OpenShell and Sentry. Artificial intelligence is extraordinary technology that will advance discovery, productivity, security, health, and prosperity for generations to come. But its full promise can only be realized when people have confidence that AI is being built to be safe and deployed with wisdom and responsibility. This is bigger than a single product. It's the beginning of an open ecosystem to build the trust layer for safe agent systems. Together, we are building the foundation of the AI economy. Trust and innovation are not in conflict. Safety is how trust is earned. We must build not only the most capable AI, but the most trusted AI, so that this extraordinary technology can realize its enormous promise for the world. nvda.ws/4hcoq7m

The argument that rogue agent behavior is a human specification failure rather than machine autonomy is correct and unflattering. It means the liability sits with the deployer, not the model. #AI

I had a dream this morning that had multipole elements I'm glad to wake and forget. And a couple of insigths that stuck with me. A Muse for those maybe. But most of it is better forgotten. Do we really want all our dreams to come true?

I have no doubt that AI innovation in protecting us will beat the bad guys. But right now, it sounds like there's a huge market opportunity for people who harness protections and offer them to enterprises.
Bot detection & human verification will be one of the most urgent demands for businesses over the coming years. Agent swarms will suffocate every website and form; small companies and government websites are most vulnerable. There is a huge gap in the market for this right now. When we looked at what offerings were in the market to use at X, there was not a single company that brought together all the latest technologies so we had to do it all in-house.

I don't know how regulatory capture works in pharma but this story reminds me of what I think might be happening. Like AI, the leaders want want the government to protect us from anything but their own productus. The Pilot to Beat China Will Keep us Behind The FDA is "piloting" an idea that has worked for 25 years. In Australia, sponsors notify the regulator, an ethics board reviews the study, and the trial starts. The FDA's version keeps every approval on its own desk. The race with China won't wait for another multi-year pilot. I don't know how regulatory capture works in pharma, but this story reminds me of what I think might be happening. Like AI, the leaders want the government to protect us from anything but their own products. The Pilot to Beat China is Too Late

Five years ago I started explaining AI video of the future destroying all copyright with my example that anyone would be able to rewrite a movie at any point. Today I saw a better example.

My coding capacity just got a 50% boost. Not so much my brain capacity. Code still doesn't know what I'm thinking... yet.
Introducing Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in our new Claude 5.5 family. It performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 for most tasks, and costs 40% less to run than Opus 5.

We have the terraforming. Now we just need the resort developers. Vacation Mars!
Today, Pioneer Labs is announcing our first step towards terraforming Mars. 🚀🌼 With equipment that fits in just a single rocket launch, we can convert Martian dirt, water, and air into enough building materials to construct a small city on Mars. To do it, we made the first microbe for Mars. We found the best microbe on Earth and used evolution to teach it how to source all of its nutrients directly from Martian materials. The first astronauts will be greeted with safe shelter already filled with water, oxygen, and rocket fuel for the return journey. This is the first step toward using biology to make Mars a friendly place for life. It lets us live off the land and helps us build the next great frontier. It's the first of five organisms we need to green Mars ⬇️
