Here is my full review and final impressions on iPhone 18 Pro Max, after 2 weeks of usage as a primary Android user:
- The build quality is phenomenal, no issues with scratches, dents, or alignment. Everything feels premium, as it should for a premium Flagship device.
- The battery life is phenomenal. This phone easily lasts a 9- 10 hour work day, and even 2 days if your usage is lighter
- The primary and Ultra wide cameras are pretty good. The photos take warmer looking pictures than my Galaxy S26 Ultra, but I am overall very impressed with the camera
- The variable aperture felt almost non-existent to me, I honestly never felt it making too much of a difference, as it is on the default aperture 98% of the time anyway.
- The telephoto camera is pretty mediocre. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the zoom of my S26 Ultra, but the overall quality I get at 40x zoom compared to my S26 Ultra is very weak. It does the job fine from 4x to around 15x, but don't expect to get the best results from 20x and beyond, or in low light.
Now for the main part: iOS 27 is a bugfest. When I first set up this phone, it took me over 3 hours to copy over 10 gigs of data from my Galaxy S26 Ultra. The set up crashed 4 times, and it refused to connect to wifi no matter what I did. Even after getting it set up, iOS overall is just.... Fine. I like Liquid Glass, it's a fun approach to software design. I really hate the fact that Face ID STILL refuses to work 100% of the time. As someone who is used to reliable ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, this was a letdown.
- Siri and Siri AI is still pretty mid at best, and plain stupid at worst. Even when I asked it to change auto- lock duration (A verbiage used by Apple menu text), the AI still refused to help me. It didn't even bother to bring me to the menu so I can change it myself!
- I REALLY dislike that the keyboard does not have a number row at the top. Why??? How hard is it to give me the toggle to turn it on as an end user?
- iOS not having a dedicated, proper clipboard is mind-boggling. As someone who frequently mass- transports large pieces of text between various places, this is a disappointment.
- the Files app and Photos app are a confusing mess. I still never figured out how to set my Photos app so I have 1 folder for camera, 1 folder for screen shots, etc etc. Sorting through images is a nightmare on this phone.
- The settings app, and settings search is a hassle. Why is it half of the useful features, like auto- brightness, under Accessibility settings? And also, not having a smart search feature in settings where I can describe what I'm looking for to get to a particular setting is annoying. This is something One UI Has perfected, and Apple needs to copy this ASAP.
I don't know what my future will be with this phone. It was a delightful 2 weeks with the iPhone 18 Pro Max. If I don't decide to keep it, I will change it for either iPhone Duo, or next year's 20th anniversary edition.
