this is from my audiovisual studio: i write the music as patterns in tidal, and every note it sends goes through a relay i built.
it passes the note to the sound engine, but also makes a copy and sends that to the visuals. so the visuals aren’t listening to the audio, they’re getting the exact same message the sound is getting, at the same time
I love how the pattern almost resolves into text before breaking apart again. Does the sound follow the same generative logic?

Thumb moving across a screen.
The gesture is familiar.
But the movement itself is much older.
Sliding a thumb across a screen is almost identical to counting prayer beads – a repetitive, rhythmic gesture. Traditionally, it was used to turn attention inward.
On a phone, the same gesture tends to do the opposite.
Instead of narrowing attention, it disperses it.
Instead of settling, it asks for another image.
Lapse begins with this contradiction.
The work is navigated entirely through scrolling and swiping – the same physical movement we use to move through an endless stream of content.
But here, there is nowhere to arrive. 👇

Interval of Quiet is an infinite, seamless browser-based generative artwork of slowly shifting colour fields, rendered in real time using JavaScript, WebGL, and GLSL shaders.
The work is presented as part of the Searching for Balance auction, alongside works by other amazing artists. The exhibition explores the search for balance between our own desires and perceptions, the expectations of others, and the pressures of a rapidly changing, information-saturated environment.
This tension is familiar to anyone engaged in creative practice, but working with code and generative systems gives it a unique dimension.
