Late last month we got to take a team photo under the
@HyphenateAI logo on the
@Nasdaq tower 🧡
Our first NYC office was a WeWork in that tall tower on the right. On its first day, the whole office was me and our first US intern, who had shown up at my hotel the day before.
13 months ago,
@ajkrish95 asked me to fly from India to NYC to help set up our first in-person team here. First time in the US. I landed with one small suitcase, and the airline lost it. The founders were out of town for the week.
New York does overwhelm you when you're new and alone!
So, I just kept working from my hotel rooftop for two days. On day 3 that intern showed up and we got lunch at the Chipotle nearby. On day 4 we had an office.
A week later another intern joined in-office. For weeks it was just the two founders, me and a couple of interns in one room. You could hear
@ramkris selling the exact features we were building at the next desk. You could hear
@ajkrish95 pitching candidates on the vision we were still building.
Since then we've outgrown two office spaces and built a team across Engineering & GTM that keeps growing, and has evidently been doing great work. We hosted an insanely talented intern cohort this summer, and a lot of them stayed on and own way bigger pieces now. We've also added many excellent senior engineers.
Yes, for the curious capital and potential customer budgets out there, maybe the first metric that catches the eye is the 87x revenue growth.
But from an insider's pov, as someone who was here on day 0 in NYC, the size (and monotonically increasing quality) of the team and the office is another way to see that growth.
Something I will always cherish. ❤️
