I keep thinking about her looking through that car window, hoping someone would notice.
In August 2013, a 25-year-old woman abducted at gunpoint in Dallas caught the attention of two teenagers from the back seat of a car.
She mouthed two words: “Help me.”
Jamal Harris, 17, and Aaron Arias, 19, saw her. They called 911 and followed the car for miles, staying on the phone so officers could find her.
Police reached the vehicle, arrested the driver, and freed the woman.
As a mother, I think about what it would mean to learn that two young men had answered my daughter’s plea for help. How do you even begin to thank them?
And I think about their mamas. I hope they know how much they have to be proud of.
We hear plenty about young people when they do something wrong. Let’s make room for Jamal and Aaron, too. Their names deserve to be remembered.
