Just got off a call with @AnjanKatta about @daylightco's resurgence, so so excited that they are back and rolling again! Going to be doing what I can to help them test new software internally, give feedback, etc. as they rebuild. Love the mission, Daylight is freedom tech ✊

if you’re working in tech and vibecoding a lot … using paper-like screens, ideally outdoors, remains one of the most underrated things you can do for your sanity + focus non-emissive, flicker-free screens help stay in your body instead of sucking you into the Stream
60 fps paper-like screens have been achieved internally

60fps eink is truly magical!!
Yes!! Flickering emissive screens are entirely alien objects to our biology, acting as hypnotizing portals for our awareness, the foundation on which disembodied dissociation into the digital can occur. Paper-like screens on the other hand are continuous with our environment. They let us to stay in our bodies, breathe easy, let the mind wander. It’s a much more species-appropriate and humane way of computing.

Hacking on this drawing app again. The latency on this is just so good that it makes me sad I can't have it on the web

I feel obligated to let my fellow nerds know that paper-like screens are the foundation for healthier computing. Reflective displays means no flicker, natural light, and blue-light-free amber backlight at night. we’ll look back on the 2010-2020s as this utterly insane period where we stared into flickering screens most of our waking hours … wondering why we were so distracted and dysregulated
I am once again reminding you that getting artificial dopamine hits inside non-stop all day is frying your chimp brain more than you dare to imagine. They can literally cook your entire life. Heck, in general, if you are depressed, unmotivated, lazy, and even don’t enjoy life much immediately cut out all artificial dopamine hits and go outside. You might laugh at this initially but give it 3 weeks and you will never look at social media the same. It’s basic science. D2 receptors, for example, are susceptible to downregulation from overstimulation, artificial blue light is shown to lead to a 30% reduction of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the substantia nigra in many animal models etc. So you can not live an overstimulating life indoors and wonder why you don’t derive pleasure from anything natural or why you're not driven to create something.

If you scroll a lot at night: -Consider getting a Daylight computer It's blue light and flicker free, so gentle on your eyes and circadian rhythm. [I have no affiliation with the company, but I personally use their product]

Instead of an iPad get a daylight tablet for your kids. It’s a paper like Bluelight free display. It’s easier on the eyes and far less stimulating than an iPad. This means less dopamine driven overstimulation and cravings. It functions more like a calm reading and drawing device than an entertainment device. Way better suited to kids if your goal is focus and reduced screen addiction.
Another iPad alternative is the Yoto player - audiobooks, podcasts, and music for kids. They also have an amazing BBC-style daily news report! Strong recommend.

whoa @daylightco + Pretext and River’s experiment is just beautiful magic the internet is wonderful again, alive and more fun than ever. haters gonna hate 🐉
This little illuminated dragon is very happy about Pretext. He's too busy having fun to care about people's "hot takes" on how "it's not that special." (This little dragon also only works on desktop right now but maybe I'll do mobile later) illustrated-manuscript.verce…
