Sometimes a twist is all it takes to create a new field of research. Stacking 2D materials on top of each other and twisting them slightly results in unusual electronic properties.

The LUX-ZEPLIN dark matter detection experiment, supported by @ENERGY's Office of Science, has recorded a single particle interaction that researchers are having difficulty explaining with known background signals from normal matter.
Dark matter has never been directly detected.
